San Antonio Valley, Aconcagua

Amayna (Viña Garces Silva)

Syrah 2017

Medium dark rubi robe, nose pf asian spices, blackcurrant and black fruits. Very fresh and medium bodied, no wood tannins, well done and very seriously drinkable. Good stuff and surprised on the upside. — 4 months ago

San Antonio Valley Syrah

Nice to have this wine again after 11 years. Visited the vineyard in Chile in 2011. A bit too international in profile; I prefer their regular Syrah. A little watery at the start, but then gets more intense and flavorful in the mid-range and after taste. Enjoyed with a burger at Wollensky’s Grill. — 3 years ago

Casa Marin

Miramar Vineyard Syrah 2008

Oh María Luz you are a rockstar. I lovingly carried this bottle back from my first trip to Chile, having been bowled over by this fierce female winemaking pioneer who runs Casa Marin with her son. From the chilliest part of San Antonio Valley, a stone’s throw from the sea, Luz’s wine shimmer with acidity and vibrate with energy. At 12 years of age this Syrah is absolutely singing with gorgeous green olive salinity backed by blackberry bramble, dried herbs, white pepper and dried currants. Fantastic acidity and faint tannins make this an utterly effortless mouthful. I wish I had another bottle. Or five. — 5 years ago
