Elegant wine. Violets, cherries, game meat. Chalky tannins. Not de-stemmed or oaked. Finished in concrete tanks. Simply a pure expression — 7 years ago
Wow, this is a nice one. Inadvertently went to the higher end of wine fridge tonight, but this one is worth the price I paid. — 8 years ago
First winery on day three traveling from Sonoma to Napa Valley was Pride Mountain Vineyards with Paul. First red wine is Merlot with fruit coming from both Sonoma (23%) and Napa (77%) Counties. This bottling is made up of 87.9% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and 0.1% Petit Verdot. Aged separately for fourteen months in 40% new French oak barrels. 4,752 cases produced.
Deep ruby red with a bit of garnet and purple. Thick and aged dark nose with notes of red plums, anise, ground cinnamon, dark stewed red berries and bramble berries. Dry palate with medium plus tannins (7/10) and medium plus to full body. Dark gravel and dark bitter coca on the attack with some dark plus, cassis, black cherries and savory spices. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2027.
$$ - Tasted at the winery. Retail price is $62.00. — 8 years ago
2020 vintage. Another winner from Jaboulet and a great example of this under-the-radar northern Rhône appellation. Peaches, flowers and subtle spices. Crisp fruit and good almondy length and a hint of fresh mint. — 4 years ago
2018 vintage. Forest floor, mushrooms and überripe plums in a peek-a-boo nose. Tremendous, consistent drive from intro palate to and thru the finish. Verry polished and ripe. Medium+ bod. If blind tasting this, would have guessed Napa with a small % of mountain fruit. Some tannins afoot but they’re not currently prominent-more fruit forward. First go-round with this producer. An auspicious first impression. It would be difficult to find a decent Bordeaux smoother than this. I ain’t signifying a 30 year lifespan-or even a 20 spot-but it’s ready to party now. Only had a handful of 2018 Bordeaux and they’ve all been fruit forward…detecting a trend there. — 5 years ago

Mahogany and pecan on the nose. Nutty flavor with hints of vanilla. Very complex finish. — 8 years ago
Nice deep flavor. Has a long finish but not too heavy on the end. Earthy flavor. Not cheap but not too expensive. Incredibly impressive presentation on the bottle itself. — 9 years ago

Hand picked in Lyon, the label lured me into thinking that something magical awaited, a bit disappointed when opened. Plenty of fresh, vibrant fruit, but felt over oaked and missing the finesse of other Beaujolais I’ve had from the region. — 9 years ago
