What a wonderful Tokaji this is. I always love coming back to this one. It is only 3 puttunyos, meaning the sugar content is much less than those in the 5 to 6 puttunyos levels, close to the style of a German Auslese. Sweet pineapple, peaches and apricots dominate the pallet, with a lovely unpasteurized honey lacing, tying it all together in a neat bow of mouthwatering acidity, unique oily and creamy mouthfeel, and a deep golden color signifying a wine of royalty. For sure butts heads with the best of Sauternes! — 10 years ago

Tonight, we pay homage to @Diana L and @Joe Lucca for treating us like royalty over the weekend - thank you so much.

So, it's Joe's birthday soon, and we purchased this bottle for him. But my goldfish-like brain had forgotten he already had some, so we decided to dive into it and give him some Yellow Tail instead!

In the glass, the wine appears as dark as the night. On the nose, I get maple syrup, kirsch, cinnamon and loamy earth. The palette reveals soft wood notes, intertwined with syrop de cassis and red licorice. Tannins are relatively soft and plush. The endnote is sweet and velvety. This is a great wine, but lacks something that I can't quite describe; sorry. — 10 years ago

2014: Now we are in the presence of royalty so mind your P's and Qs. Te Mata 'reputedly' make the best NZ red in Coleraine and this is the little brother's er little brother. It is beetroot red showing it is as fresh as a daisy. But the taste is already exceptional for the year and the price at $22. No cab sav grassy rebellion and no merlot tart it is refined, low acid low sweetness. Like the All Blacks No. 10 we obviously have depth in numbers and age.
