Enjoying some wonderful aged Australian Rieslings from my cellar currently. This from the Eden Valley was almost as impressive as the Eldredge from the Clare a few days ago. Pale Lemon in colour. Nose of mandarin rind, pith and flesh, dried flowers but no Kero. The palate is showing Mandarin juice, a touch of sweetness and low acid. This wine has blossomed with cellaring, becoming delicious after the austerity of its youth. The vineyard was planted in 1912. Colin Kroehn as at 2012 has tended this vineyard for 66 of his 86 years. — 5 years ago
Fairly ripe and extracted vision of RRV PN. Fruit fwd but not overblown in the least. Made well but not really my jam at 14.5%. A lot of people like this style tho. Red fruits and root beer. Decant, smoke a big doob, and pair with a big ass pot roast and some taters for a good time — 6 years ago
Meat and cheese night - I knew this would be big -big boysenberry and black fruits cured meat, little floral, celery root, spice - this is Syrah to the core big tannins that weren’t tamed much by five years in bottle (fortunately I have another) love it — 6 years ago
Fragile - I don't believe it’s pronounced frah-ghee-lay - has a big, bright nose full of big, bright red fruit. A bit of heat pokes its head through, too, owing to the 15% alcohol content. That cherry-red fruit comes through on the palate as well, with a boatload of acidity to boot. The winery notes say Fragile pairs well with lighter fare and warm, sunny days. I'd have it with pork chops in a heartbeat. — 7 years ago
Dark red color with a nice nose of black fruit and a full body with decent complexity and still a decent amount of tannins and fruit which is minimally sweet and a medium aftertaste. Ready, But will last a 3-6 years more in a cool cellar. — 7 years ago
All fruit at Yarra Yering is hand-picked into 10kg picking buckets in the cool of the morning, and delivered direct to the winery. The fruit is sorted, then either destemmed or crushed into the traditional Yarra Yering “tea chest” 0.5-tonne open-fermenters. Depending on the variety, stalks may be added back during the fermentation stage in baskets for easy removal when there is just enough stalk tannin present.
Occasionally there will be some 100% whole bunch fermenters for use as a blending component. The stainless steel lined wooden tea chest fermenters were designed to hold just the right amount of fruit to fit into the basket press. During fermentation they are hand plunged for gentle tannin extraction, initiated naturally or sometimes with a specific cultured yeast strain.
Once fermentation is complete they will be basket pressed, preferred for its gentle separation of wine from the grape skins and seeds before being transferred via gravity to barrel.
Completes malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels.
Pleasingly unusual in its initial presentation, redolent of roasted carrots and turmeric, Indian spiced cauliflower. Resolves into a more familiar kalamata olive and ripe red fruit character, with some notes that push the profile towards a bigger, almost chocolatey, vanilla-laced Australian character with a velvety smooth, Syrah-like mouthfeel. The sweet glazed root vegetable flavors remain, quite welcome and delicious. — 5 years ago

The signature wine from the exquisitely tended Puente Alto vineyard, deep Ruby with aromas of dark fruits and espresso notes, a blend of 91% Cab Sauv and 9% Cab Franc, aged for 15 month in French oak (66% new). On the palate pronounced flavors of black cherry and plum with herb notes. Firm grippy tannins, long finish ending with herb tobacco notes, still tight needs time. Tasting Sample! — 6 years ago
After decanting initial notes of honeycomb. A good combination of root vegetable notes and savoury red fruits. Great palate intensity without weight. An excellent example of a 10 year old Tasmanian Pinot. Freycinet is on the East Coast of Tasmania and their Pinot Noir is a regular purchase for me. Capable of ageing for 15 years plus. — 7 years ago
Really smooth mouthfeel, great legs. — 7 years ago
Absolutely beautiful. Deep and textural and rich but still has tons of acidity and lift. 😍 (bottled 2010, disgorged 2016) — 7 years ago
See many previous notes of this excellent Pinot Noir. My last 2010 Bass Phillip Estate sadly. Pale to mid Ruby in colour giving no hint of the intensity to come. A floral earthy perfume showing beetroot and red fruits - a hint of whole bunch in the ferment. On the palate the same earthy root vegetable flavours with savoury red fruits and that Bass Phillip palate intensity with great length and persistence. Low acidity. An excellent new world Pinot which has cellared well. — 5 years ago
Cheaper but very smooth and affordable habit. Oak flavor shines, hunt of plum — 5 years ago
Tonight I thought I would open this LMHB as the 2019 was released on futures yesterday. It may be a better wine but you are going to have to wait a long time to find out. The 66 is a wine where I have opened more than 6 cases in the last 5 yrs & consider it one of the great vintages for current drinking showing black fruits, cassis, saddle leather, smoke, tar, graphite, licorice, soy, tobacco & violets. This has been fully mature for 10 yrs & perfectly stored btls will continue to drink well for many years. One of the wines that keeps me searching & drinking old Bordeaux! — 6 years ago
Very good Grenache. Complexity but not overpowering. A little spicy, right Glen? — 6 years ago
@ smooth 10% alc/v this is a nice and easy sip with delicious peach and nectarine flavors. — 7 years ago

stewed cherry and a very present coffee bean opening. animal hide. fruit and grip folding in on itself. an hour in, cocoa notes, herbal highlights, fermented tea, an after-whiff of caramel which stays in the nose even when the palate dissipates...grass-fed butter, cola, burdock root, medicine. an extraordinary and unexpected ride. — 5 years ago
