2022/6/8-10 with scallop crudo, homemade fresh tagliolini al Portonat, frico, etc. A nice mix of more “typical”, bright Sauvignon Blanc citrus and herbs with richer, stone fruit notes. Strong minerality, sneaky richness and plenty of acidity ensure a strong structure, and subtle depth keeps one coming back. — 3 years ago

Orange wine done finely and with great precision. For those hedonists who like overt pleasure. Though complexity and character is there in depth this seemed like a rich pie with a deeply buttery crust the entire time. — 5 years ago

I’ll stand by my June 24, 2021 rating. Consistently great. — 4 years ago
This clear yellow wine pours up very slightly frizzante, with a small collection of tiny bubbles clinging to the glass. On the nose there is a sweet apricot aroma mixed with a delicate blend of herbs and minerals. Those minerals drive the palate, which is exquisitely citrus. The acidity comes on strong, then softens through the sip into a gentle tingle. It is an elegant white wine, offering a perfect balance of herbal notes, earthiness and freshness. — 4 years ago
50% CS, 40% CF, 10% Merlot. This is certainly aiming for the highest pedigree of Bdx-blends, and getting there as well. Crushed white stones, serious minerality, wild fruits, plenty of spice elements and underlying acidity enabling flavours to retain freshness and length. Beautifully integrated all new oak here as well. It tastes... amazing, and it’s structure promises a very long and slow cellar evolution. Best from 2025-2040. This will rival ANY high end stuff available. — 7 years ago
Ghemme is my sentimental favorite of the Novarese DOCs. I had a really good one when I was in my last year of college and starting my wine journey. It generally is one of the heavier and, sometimes, earthier of the group. This one is very good. Still youthful, it takes time to open up, but slowly reveals dark cherry, mahogany furniture, crushed minerally gravel, and roasted meat scents. Medium full, it’s got concentrated and tight dark cherry fruit, very fine-grained but abundantly chalky tannins, and very nice acidity. No rush to drink this. Enjoy over the next 4-5 years, maybe longer. — 3 years ago
The 2019 Schioppettino is remarkably pretty and floral, with violets and roses complementing its wild red berries and hints of smoke. This is soft-textured and lifted in feel, yet also packed full of fleshy raspberry fruit, as exotic spices build within. It leaves a tinge of sour citrus while finishing lightly structured and with a staining like liquid lavender. Lovers of Schioppettino will fall head over heels for the 2019. Awesome wine. As usual, If you think you don’t like a category or variety, just go spend $80/bottle then come back and talk to me. This wine shows what Friulano can be. Polished, mildly enriched by oak barrels, very complex fruit, minerals and Unami and super stylish texture...Like the first time you saw a car designed by Karmen Ghia — 5 years ago
— 6 years ago
Rich and creamy. Briny salinity, wild herbs, barnyard funk, clay, and yet with undertones of ripe tropical fruits. Moderate plus acidity and body. A unique Friuli Sauvignon Blanc. — 7 years ago

Popped and poured. The 2020 Chardonnay “Ronco Basso” is quite compelling. I found that the fruit presented more round on the nose than it is on the palate, which showed a bright mix of tropical and citrus fruits with really lovely acid and fantastic minerality. The finish was long and full of energy. One of the more exciting Chardonnays I’ve had in a while. Drink now but will drink well for at least 10 years. — 2 years ago
