@David L @Carl Fischer @Ron R @Joe Lucca @Kirk Alexander Christine & I had dinner with my buddy Kirk and his beatific wife Veronica. I uncorked this one since it had been such a reliable pour the last time I opened it. However, in New York it had disappointed all of us. I am back to being disappointed. This is the type of bottle that you have to open by itself and not showcase it against any other as it will swiftly retreat into the shadows. Light on the palate, super short finish. This bottle came in dead last tonight. I can't believe the other that I opened impressed me that much that night. I don't do this often but I will knock it down to an 8.9. — 9 years ago

What can you say about a penfolds. As I have said before. Not a big chard fan. But the Aussie version isn’t bad. Good structure still for a 2006. Even some minerality. Homemade andouille sausage with potatoes and garden peppers went well — 7 years ago
Nice body, bold taste. Good by itself or paired. — 8 years ago
Nose Is fruit forward, a bit of oak and signs of spice. Blackberry and current are immediate flavors but they actually retreat pretty quickly. Tannins are elevated and start from the beginning. I actually think it mutes the fruit flavors a bit. There is some spice on the finish. It's medium to mild and does linger, but I would have liked it to be more predominant. My expectations were a little high being a wine from Dry Creek and quality reviews are abundant. This is a quality wine, enjoyable for tannin lovers but is just too limited when it comes to spice, oak which are great Zin characteristics. — 9 years ago

Dymon partners retreat. Wine of the evening even against 82 margeaux. More lively, vs the margeaux which felt a bit over the hill — 10 years ago

It’s fair to say that every Penfolds Cuvée (possibly with the exception of the entry level Rawsons Retreat) is made to cellar. This includes this 2010 Koonunga Hill which cost $16.99. Plummy mocha chocolate notes on nose and palate - showing the Penfolds DNA. — 6 years ago
