Clos Chanson Condrieu Viognier 2015

This was so hedonistic for me, but within the realm of balance. The oak, lees integration, alcohol, and ripe tannin made for elixir that went straight to the pleasure center of my brain. Honey covered and grilled yellow peach, distilled honeysuckle, lavender, candied pear and Rainer cherry, crushed stones, orange peel, marzipan. So ripe and yet the full ML treatment worked so well. The phenolic Viognier bite was so suave and plush. — 4 years ago

Domaine Charles Audoin

Marsannay Pinot Noir Rosé 2016

9.1

On the nose, perfumed, candied fruits of strawberries, watermelon, cherries & Rainer cherries. Ballpark chewing gum, soft, powdery chalkiness and pink rose petals. The mouthfeel is round, ripe and fresh. Fruits are; ripe strawberries, watermelon, cherries & Rainer cherries. Ballpark chewing gum, roses petals and really like the soft, delicate, powdery chalkiness and minerality. Acidity is round, soft and mouthwatering. The long finish is round, fresh and delicious. The 2016 yield was about 1/2 of normal. Photos of; the Marasanny vineyard being harvested, outside shot of the Domaine & their stainless tanks in the the cellar as well as Cyril. Producer history and notes...Domaine Charles Audoin lies in the village of Marsannay-la-Côte. Descended from a long line of wine growers passing down from father to son, Charles Audoin took over the family property in 1972 with his wife Marie-Françoise, an oenologist by training. Located within the commune of Marsannay-la-Côte. Domaine Charles Audoin began with only three hectares but the estate has grown to nearly 35 acres with a diversity of soils. After taking over his father’s five acres of vineyards, Charles Audoin and wife Marie-Françoise developed the estate through the restoration and the purchase of new lots. Their vines are over 45 years of age on average and have a south-eastern orientation. Cyril prefers lower yields and has less intensive extraction for softer and more elegant wines. Happy Bastille everyone!

Woodruff Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

A touch of bacon fat on the nose.

Rainer cherries, pomegranate-seed and all, berry Bramble of twigs and branches, brioche.
Light bodied and a singing acidity of pomelo zest.
A nice lil wine, well worth exploring at the price.

Cork was pushing up and this needed to be opened. Gorgeous nose. So many rocks. Petrol, lemon, lime zest, mineral and even a hint of rainer cherries. Really aromatic and stunning. Palate is super mineral and dense and opulent (this is 06) with nice texture and freshness. Good acids and nice citrus fruits on the long finish. Really Long. Excellent and at its apogee. — 7 years ago

Dynamite stuff. 2006 is very good in the Nahe. Herbal nose, white cherries, apricots, super mineral, very clean. Palate is rich but super precise with lovely tangy apricot, grapefruit and Rainer cherry. Fresh and energetic with an icing like texture. Long, clean and super pure. Wonderful depth. — 5 years ago

Bella's Garden Barossa Valley Shiraz 2012

Boldness and finesse! This wine has layers. Cola, Rainer cherries, blueberries, wet earth, sweet spices, orange peel, kirsch.... The description can go on. The tannins are resolved and the acidity is still pleasant. The nose is perfumed, savory, and is a real joy to linger over while savoring the long finish. ( I dig the sandalwood notes). Bella’s Garden is certainly the most consistent of the Garden series wines and 2012 is a terrific vintage. This wine was waiting in my cellar, but I won’t wait too long to drink the next bottle as the wine is at its peak. — 5 years ago

Reserve Sparkling Blend 2003

Congrats Philly! You all get next year & most others New England.
The 2003 Reserve has youthful aromas of red apple and juicy pear, which is followed by Rainer cherry. The fruit is accentuated by holiday spices, such as nutmeg and clove, as well as warm pie crust. Upon first taste there is generous fruit flavors of Satsuma orange, candied pineapple and strawberry, in addition to some peach. The palate is elegant and concentrated, with a quenching acidity and a long and lingering finish.
Varietal Composition: 75% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay
Barrel Fermentation: 40%
Alcohol: 12.7%
Suggested Retail: $150
But actually probably paid closer to under $100 with the Riddlers Club shipment and discounts.
Honestly it was so good and the last 2 weeks were so gnarly I ended up drinking the whole bottle on Friday afternoon.

Pinot Noir Nuit Blanche 2014

This is a worthy bottle that brings a little something different to the table. Pretty pale copper color. A subtle yet assertive nose of peach, apricot and wet stone. The flavor is reminiscent of watermelon rind and Rainer Cherry and really attacks the sides of the tongue with its prickly acidity. There's some barrel influence in there too which really comes out on the nutty finish. All in all a fun talking piece that could pair well with a variety of seafood or salads or just quench the thirst on a sunny summer afternoon. — 8 years ago
