Chavignol Sancerre Pinot Noir 2014

Morello cherries, green & black peppercorns, haystack, game, marjoram, dried thyme, mint. Rounded acidity/minimal smooth velvet tannins, medium bodied, satin texture, herbal-gamy finish. Quirky with prominent herbal notes; some reduction that pairs well with venison, red meats, funky cheeses. Do not expect a polished-elegant Pinot Noir. — 7 years ago

Messanges Chinon Cabernet Franc Rosé 2014

Color is like liquid copper, amazing. Took about an hour to open, then nearly as good as upon release, nice acid, Loire Cab Franc, tart strawberry on the palate. One more bottle and we're clean out, loved this wine, only found it once. One of our favorite bottles, with a bird on it! — 8 years ago

Verduno Pelaverga 2015

Vinous Favorites
9.0

Burlotto’s 2015 Pelaverga is striking. Sweet floral notes meld into a core of silky red berry fruit in an airy, mid-weight red that captures the more refined side of this quirky, indigenous variety native to Verduno. (AG) — 8 years ago

Bird in Hand

Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

If I'd known then what I know now. I find cab sav is most often a purchase based on speculation - they're frequently released far too young and are pretty much undrinkable in their youth. All overpowering tannin and intensity. This is an example of one very much worth the wait. Cool climate elegance combined with concentrated fruit and all sorts of complex notes layered throughout: menthol, cedar, blackcurrant, spice, hints of dusty chocolate and gently perfumed oak. Still has years ahead of it. Can't wait for dinner to finish cooking so I can sock it back with a rump steak. Should have bought more way back when! — 9 years ago

Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir 2005

Cracking good Adelaide Hills pinot. So different from most. Plush and broad with subtly spiced plum and cherry. Right time to drink - one more bottle left and won’t be keeping it a lot longer. — 7 years ago

Another great round for the flavorful bird , the taste is like apple juice if it was not sweet and had embodied every beutiful flavor of a white wine. — 8 years ago

Adelaide Hills Merlot 2006

Brooding, dark, inky and absolutely delicious. It's got some of those leathery, cigar box kinds of notes. Dash of dark chocolate on the nose. Plum. Black fruit. Concentrated. Nice chewy finish. Lingers. Rarely would I drink an Aussie merlot, yet this one's knocking it out of the park. — 8 years ago

Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2007

This is an amazing drinking Burg. As I stated earlier drinking better than Burgundies costing more than twice the price. Red & black cherry fruits, blood orange, intense mineral with game bird, dried herbs and Asian spice. — 9 years ago

Bonny Doon Vineyard

Le Cigare Volant Red Rhone Blend 2008

I'm admittedly a sucker for Randall's wines, and his writing, and his aesthetic, his quirky personality and outlandish experimentation. The 2008 is rich, dense, littered with ashy tannins and ripe with black, juicy fruit. So, my husband proposed after our first visit to Bonny Doon, thus my bias, but I think I can truthfully say this wine is very, very special. — 9 years ago
