2012. Definitely slow to open up and and be Bordeaux about it. Entering its drinking timeline just now. After being open since 6 last eve....24-34 hours later..
The rad dried violet/flowers that showed on initial has finely integrated the oh-so-pretty nose with the multi-soft-grip palette. Super cool if you’re patient. Thanks Elias and Brad for letting me watch this one till it came around.....
A sleeper lies in your cellar if you’re sitting on this one. Cheers to the exploration of patience. — 6 years ago

Smooth, but enticing nose.
Black fruit, and vanilla beans on a luscious, silky note. A little tobacco at the end, just to balance the fruit. Loving it! — 9 years ago

Deep cherry and black currant richness with a pepper back note, has laid well. A good one for meat or cheese. — 10 years ago
Great recommendation from Elias Fernandez winemaker at Shafer….. — 5 years ago
Refined, Bright tangy red fruit — 8 years ago
On the nose, slightly sweet dark fruits, burnt ambers, dark soil and decayed darks florals. One the palate, ruby fruits of; blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, strawberries and raspberries. The body is lean with grippy, silty, dark tannins, dark chocolate, mocha powder, wood shavings, dry stems, fresh red florals, cola, leathery, light touch of vanilla, good acidity with a dry finish. Don't open for 8-10 years.

Better cab at Hanna than some of the others. Good lower priced staple. — 6 years ago
In 1979 John Shafer founded Shafer Vineyards in the Stags Leap District of Napa. A blend of 97% Syrah & 3% Petite Sirah, notably small PS% which varies each year. The work of Elias Fernandez, fruit from La Mesa Vineyard, a ridgetop of shallow soils & volcanic ash. Stunning red with full black fruit aromas and pepper spice with floral edge. On the palate blackberry flavors, spice, oak and earthy notes. Big fine tannins, vivid acidity, good balance on lingering finish ending with cacao tones. Will cellar well. — 8 years ago
Dark inky purple wine that covers your wine glass, teeth, and palate. Absolutely delicious fruit forward wine that is a bit heavy in tannins but can soften up with age and air in a decanter. Another Shafer Special that has Elias Fernandez's finger prints all over it — 10 years ago

Fruit forward and a great example of the varietals potential in a good year. I agree with Elias Fernandez on this one. — 4 years ago
