Black Label Taketsuru Pure Malt Whisky

I bought this for the winter months and finished the last of it over the weekend. This is a blended malt named in honour of Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese Whisky. He was the first Japanese who mastered Whisky making in Scotland and brought this expertise back to Japan. It was an incredibly pure and rich Whisky with a certain smokiness. I don’t drink enough Whisky to know the difference but this could easily have been Scotch to my palate. 43% ABV. — 3 years ago

They are wonderful whiskies. I had the pleasure of visiting the distillery in 2006…wish I had saved a few bottles! Highly recommend a visit!

Totally agree Andrew. In 2018 I had a skiing trip to Niseko with my son and many of their better whiskies seem to come from the Island of Hokkaido.

Anderson Valley Pinot Noir 2008

Gorgeous. Thought we'd waited too long to open this 2008, but it's amazing. Ripe cherries, a touch of port, and a little forest floor. Really special. — 5 years ago

Roma's Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017

So good! I always drink it too fast. Finally let it open up I. The glass tonight. Beautiful. Red fruit, slight floral notes and just a bit of earth. — 5 years ago

Barterhouse Kentucky Bourbon Aged 20 Years

A unique bourbon. Vanilla nose with an incredible flavor of cherries on the palate, almost kirsch-like. Very happy with this. — 6 years ago

Love the dried fruit (Black Current and fig ) to go along with blueberry. The wine exhibits both power and finesse and has a very pleasant lingering finish — 3 years ago

An old standard in our household. Velvety smooth, rich juicy berries. Glad we can purchase Freakshow even at Costco in TX and have a solid, boozy Cab at the ready. — 4 years ago

Rich and warm with a smooth finish. Sri king it with a pork roast this evening I think it’s going to be amazing — 5 years ago

Valenti Vineyard Pinot Noir

One of the most perfectly balanced light white wines I’ve ever tasted.
Far too easy to drink, would pair excellently with fresh salad dishes.
The perfect wine for entertaining yourself on a sunny day...

21 Years Old Pure Malt Whisky

Rich amber color. Luscious red fruits, licorice, honey, and cardamom in the nose. Deeper flavors on the palate, with very rich mouthfeel and hints of light smoke. Luxurious finish. Nice to be tasting some Japanese whisky again after a dry spell in California! — 7 years ago

Symphony

An explosion of dark ripe cherry, plum and BlackBerry. Hot at 15% a.b.v. , but smooth with no burn.

Mild tannins, lingering finish. If your reading this, please try it. $15 at my local liquor store.

One of the best red blends I've tried.

Paired with red potatoes, veg. Medley and roasted chicken.

Rating 2014 a 96 for now so the scale has somewhere to go up once it gets some age. Aromatics hit the nose with power and went down nicely. This one will be great @Bruce Phillips scary good for being this young. Cheers! — 9 years ago

@Ryan Mitchell I am a huge fan of the VHR. Such an incredibly well crafted wine. They knock it out of the park every year! I can't wait to try their 14. Great pull Paul Ryan! 👏🍷🍷👏

@Eric LaMasters this is their label before the commercial label goes on. The VHR label is one of my favorites to obsess/analyze since they put all the detail of every block of fruit within. Once you get your 2014 allocation (and yes you should) it'll have the traditional label. Mark down these blocks and the weather - truly special.

@Martin G Rivard VHR is probably my favorite. Yes, there, I said it. Can't beat the dedication to the land and every year is consistently getting better. Did drop your names to @Bruce Phillips to share some of the fun we have been having on @Delectable Wine . No shocker remembered you both @Martin G Rivard and @David A Lentine right away. Enjoy your evening. I told David next year I'll be there.
