Drinking beautifully with a Northern appellation feel to it, more Brune and schistous to me. Would love to know all the lieu dits that contribute and their proportion in the final blend. Its darken fruit profile, meaty/smokey and forest notes make the argument that it’s of northern origin. Its opening up for now there’s a rich stream of dark black fruits reminiscent of Black raspberry liquor, soaked plums, almost prune, and overripe black berry/cherry. There’s still freshness to the fruit however, nothing ox’d or decaying. Singed cedar, leather, ash, roasted meat and animal come next, followed by the garrigue and bacon fat. Threads of eastern spices and of course pepper. It elusive now, the aromas coming and going. Palate has some lovely richness and bones to accompany it well, never pushy, always with restraint and nerve. Reminds me of Barolo. Great “basic” cuvée for Rostaing this vintage. Day 2 this really got going, much more harmony and focus on the nose. Loads of bitter root and pastille notes developing among its dark content. Very delicious — 5 years ago
This captures the style of Saint Préfert quiet well with its sleek profile, freshness and lifted aromatics. This has some serious class for its CDR origin, very pure and elegantly structured. Fresh to overripe black fruit, stones, candied olive, smoke and lavender. There’s a hint of meaty-ness as well. The florals are this wines most intriguing component, coupled with the snap of acid the blend has, tremendous value. 85 GR 15 CI, “la Lionne” in Sorgues, gallets soils, full concrete — 6 years ago

The estate once belonged to the famous Lynch family, of Irish origin, acquired by Jean-Charles Cazes in 1934. His grandson, Jean-Michel Cazes restructured the estate in 1974, with state-of-the-art winemaking equipment. Primarily Cab Sauv, with Merlot, Cab Franc & Petit Verdot in the blend. Deep Ruby, complex nose, aged well, round berry fruit flavors, blackberry and plum with an oak character, elegant with soft tannins, a delicious wine ending with delicate fruit, oak and mineral notes. Great! — 4 years ago
Don’t usually like rieslings. Vanilla notes. — 5 years ago

Floral and bright nose. Boozy.
Chewy and full body.
Curious about the lager temp for the grapes.
Very drinkable and pairs excellent with lemon rice. — 4 years ago
2017 Paul Lato Matinee Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir.
This wine punches so far above its price class. It’s Burgundien in style but never forgets it’s origin. It carries the best of both worlds.
It’s a bright, shiny ruby red in the glass. Aromas of sweet Bing cherries wth spicy raspberries and strawberries. Wow. Amazing flavours of cherries, roses, earthiness, coca and a touch of cola. Overriding everything is an elegance that dances on your tongue but doesn’t overwhelm. We had it with local organic chicken thighs with shio koji and daikon leaves. Amazing. — 5 years ago
Had this about 2 years ago. The estate once belonged to the famous Lynch family, of Irish origin, was acquired by Jean-Charles Cazes in 1934. His grandson, Jean-Michel Cazes restructured the estate in 1974. A blend of 73% Cab Sauv & 27% Merlot, deep Ruby (lost purple edges), pronounced berry fruit aromas with cacao and vanilla notes. On the palate blackberry and plum flavors with tobacco and espresso notes. Dusty fine tannins, long ending with an oaky mineral character. Developed well! Tasting Sample! — 5 years ago
This is why France trumps the rest when it comes to a Cabernet blend that has history, complexity and place of origin at a great price point. A great vintage does help 😊 — 6 years ago
Dominated by tertiary character typical of origin and the sweet lingering of new oak. Past its prime as the palate has shed a lot of flesh by now. The nose is gorgeous; burnt ends, toasted herbs de Provence, hardwood smoke, ash, pepper, licorice root, coffee grounds, vanilla, baked plum and dried red fruit. Wood tannins have some firmness, but there’s an acid component balancing it out. Still found this enjoyable though — 7 years ago
Founded in 1972, Bodegas LAN was named after the initials of the 3 provinces in the Rioja Designation of Origin: Logrono (now La Rioja) Alava and Navarra. Deep Ruby with red berry aromas and some spice. On the palate tart cherry with cinnamon and vanilla oak flavors with subtle herb notes. Fine tannins, good balance, medium finish ending with earthy leather notes. Nice value. — 7 years ago

Funky on the nose; hits you with subtle notes of gorgonzola or blue cheese, and green tomatoes. Viscous texture, but does not coat your mouth. Flavors of plum, pear, and nectarine. Crisp and acidic on the finish. Awesome wine. — 4 years ago
