This is what I like about California Syrah. It retains many of the same fruit qualities of Aussie Shiraz but is a bit more refined and elegant. I might be biased, though, because I haven't had a Nils Venge wine I haven't liked. Well balanced. — 10 years ago

Nils Venge continues to impress me. I'm surprised to see this is the first note on DL!

In the glass, it's a medium cherry red. The nose has plenty of red currant and sweet oak. On the palate, there are definite notes of cranberry and cassis with a hint of wild strawberry. The oak rounds things out in a classic Nils Venge way that I find hard to describe. Soft tannins. Good finish. — 10 years ago
