Good balance and nice acidity, blue fruits black fruits not Jamie whatsoever, Complex with a long finish. Tremendous age ability! — 5 years ago
inky purple; licorice, plum, black cherry, tar, vanilla, spearmint; dense, powerful black fruit, exotic spices, long velvety finish, surprising balance for 16.7% ABV; sourced from 130 year-old head-trained vines in the steepest non-terraced hillside vineyard in Sonoma County, Helen Turkey was consultant — 5 years ago
Blackberry, vegetal, herbal, with greenery. Some smokiness on the nose with black licorice. It's great to have an alternative of comparable quality to Napa Cabernet. In terms of $/points this punches way above its weight. To me, this is a very slightly better version of Faust Cab.

Wine No. 6 of the 8 Cabernets we tasted blind on Saturday. The idea for this tasting came from Cape Mentelle who annually have an International Cabernet tasting at the winery in WA where they have the confidence to put their wine up against the best Cabernets in the world every year. This has all of the classic Cabernet descriptors of black olive, red fruits, cigar box etc. Ranked #6 of the 8 Cabernets we tasted on the day. Again needs to be cellared to realise its ultimate potential. — 5 years ago
Fun Friday evening with great wines.
Classic WS raspberries all over this wine. Bright and acidic. Very fresh and juicy raspberries, fleshy strawberries, stem and herbs. A touch thin on the palate, but time may have beefed it up a bit after I had left. Just a hint of black cherries here, but overall, the profile here is decidedly red fruit driven with a light body and high acidity. — 6 years ago
A Margaret River-producer from the beginning, whose inception was coached by Mondavi; deep purple; nose of dark mulberry, black currant, ripe cherries, black pepper, anise and nutmeg; showing great on the palate, forceful yet elegant, with tannins, ripe fruit, acid levels and alcohol in good harmony, and a long dry finish. Promising future. — 4 years ago
Deep virtually opaque blackberry shade. Absolutely beautiful with intoxicating aromas of berries, warming spice, bay leaves and black cherries. It’s rich and juicy in the mouth. Drinking beautifully however with patience this wine will be even more amazing 🤩 #sample #opinionsaremyown — 4 years ago
Mixed pepper, mixed red and black fruit. Was tart to open and then evolved beautifully. This will age! Rated 2016 last night 2018 tonight (feb)... Update, (2nd bottle of 2018, now late may): Those tart aromatics are piercing, rose water, lavender. It’s an intense wine. Medium bodied with light tannins. Very little oak influence. I think the cranberry and subtle white pepper will age and this wine will be nice for a long time. — 4 years ago
Hard to differentiate from the black sheep by my amateur palate. Both more full-bodied than some of the other Pinots. But very good with a well peppered pork tenderloin. — 5 years ago
One of the best Syrahs I’ve had. Complex nose of bittersweet chocolate, raspberries, cherries, smoke. The wine was very focused and fresh for 14 years old. Blackberry, black pepper, graphite, with a hit of menthol on the finish. Sadly, the last bottle of 2006 they had. Would def buy this again. #dumol #theunionhotel — 5 years ago

5 years old and this is pretty fresh and bright. Ripe peaches and marshmallow. Pairs well with Cowgirl Red Hawk, the stinky cheese seems to bring out some light sweetness. Great stuff. — 6 years ago

New label but the same always-reliable Zinfandel. Huge aroma of crunchy black fruit and red fruit with wild raspberry, elderberry, mulberry, plum and licorice. Tannins are soft and elegant, vibrant acidity and a warm undercurrent of dried herbs (think a Sonoma version of garrigue) give this wine charm and dimension. It’s lovely. 14.8% abv — 3 years ago
