Shafer Vineyards

Hillside Select Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 1994

PnP at a friend's house. Wonderful nose of blackberry, black currant, dried blueberries, cedar, eucalyptus, and tobacco that keeps intensifying with time in the glass. Full body with fully-integrated tannins and a long complex finish that fluctuates between black fruits, organic earth, and eucalyptus. Everything about this wine is in perfect harmony right now but it still has plenty of life left. — 6 years ago

Taittinger

Comtes de Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne Chardonnay 2004

Nice gently nutty and toasty nose. White floral character underneath, lots of intensity but perhaps a bit tight at the moment. Pretty zippy and mineral on palate, more softness of texture to come, but an awesome long creamy but fresh finish. — 9 years ago

Silver Oak

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Nose was ripe dark fruit, currant, spices, smoked oak or cedar. Velvet texture with nice dark fruit, licorice, pepper and smoke. Well rounded tannin at the end. Long finish. — 9 years ago

Clos des Papes

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend

2010. Not a lot of notes from me in the long tasting. It was up against 07 Pegau which I could put down. Very enjoyable though. — 9 years ago

Château Margaux

Premier Grand Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2007

Decanted. Not unforgiving, but still rigid. Showed some great potentials for a very long life ahead. Autumnal qualities with very concentrated redcurrant and earth. — 9 years ago

Bonneau du Martray

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 1986

Perfect condition btl opened for 5 hrs. Light yellow gold. Nose has lemon, almond paste, stone. Rich and glycerol in the mouth. Really nice fine grain acidity and very long finish. Great wine. — 8 years ago

Krug

Brut Champagne Blend 1996

As always, Krug is for me, the perfect illustration of power and fineness. The common thread amongst all of the bottles I have been fortunate to taste is a sense of luxury. In a wine, luxury is not an easy to define, but most certainly Krug has it. A generous nose of brioche, apple galette, quince and nutmeg. The mousse is quite fine, gracefully leading into full texture, and an acid spine that pierces through layers of crème and orchard fruit. And the finish—as long and languid as any great story arc. — 9 years ago
