Mollydooker

Bodegas El Nido

Clio Jumilla Monastrell-Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2013

Wow. Lived up to the hype. Promoted by no less authorities than @Carl Fischer and @Isaac Pirolo. The hype is real.

Many have suggested that this is Napa meets Spain. For me it's Mollydooker takes a Spanish vacation.

Bold and unctuous. Full tilt. Very high

@Carl Fischer, I wish I knew exactly what my malfunction is. I used to love the Rhone varietals, then my wife came on the scene - game over! @TheSkip, Rudius do a special Mourvèdre at a knockdown price. Grapesthewineco.com is still retailing the 14.

A little pre gaming while recapping Girls. I've been dying to open this bottle of bubbly from one of my favorite wineries. Hints of lemon, pineapple and cream. I'm in love. — 8 years ago

Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Tasted blind among 13 other reds in the $20-30 range. This tied for my best wine of the night along with Mollydooker The Boxer 2014. This wine had come together nicely with supple tannins and lots of jammy fruit. Lovely long finish. — 8 years ago

Angels' Share McLaren Vale Shiraz 2012

Wonderful Shiraz. Big flavor with an enjoyable finish. Very nice. Liked The Boxer from Mollydooker better, but still great- 2012 Vintage — 9 years ago

After having this, I went to check what I paid. $17!!! Crazy! I thought this was at least $30+. Thank you Garagiste!

Surprisingly hot for 11 years old. Still youthful and full tilt. Reminded me of mollydooker but with an American twist. Impressive.

Marquis Philips

South Eastern Cabernet Sauvignon

Enjoying working through the back catalogue of Sarah and Sparky Marquis. This enterprise with their involvement broke up in 2005 when the Marquis's left to form Mollydooker. Dan Philips continued on for a couple of more years and but ultimately, this label failed in late part of the 2000s. And now, we learn this week that the fractures continue with the divorce of Sarah and Sparky. She has claimed control of Mollydooker while Sparky can't put out anything until 2018.

As soon as I had my first sip, this was classic Marquis. Amazingly, there was some heat here but this quickly dissipated. Long legs and maroon core. Black current and leathery from age. Tannins are beautifully integrated at this point. Amazingly, I think this still has some life in it as it was probably crafted for immediate consumption rather than 20 years of cellaring.

Thomas

Dundee Hills Pinot Noir 2013

First wine I've had from this producer I've been intensely curious about. Extremely gassy, even past Badoit territory, needed some serious Mollydooker shaking and decanting to get into drinkable territory and then a bit more time beyond that to get its composure. It's got pure red-fruited flavors and aromas in the same tone, but instead of fruity the scents are intensely floral, very rosy along with something else underneath like rhubarb or some other member of the root family. Unfortunately I think there is also a nick of volatile acidity. The texture is lean and refined, perhaps not to the extent of some of the Eyrie wines but not so far off. — 8 years ago

Two Hands

Lily's Garden McLaren Vale Shiraz 2010

Two Hands probably better known in the USA than in Australia - similar to Mollydooker helped by very favourable reviews from Wine Spectator. Also similar wine styles that cram the last bit of fruit into a powerful but enjoyable palate full of plum and dark chocolate. A luscious wine driven by ripe fruit in a good vintage. 18+. — 9 years ago

Sleight Of Hand Cellars

Levitation Syrah 2012

Holy extraction grandma. Imagine a bottle of Caymus and a bottle of MollyDooker (any MD, really) met at a party and hit it off.. the Caymus, being outgoing and forgetting it's manners, while slightly inebriated, started dancing a bit too close to the Molly Dooker. She, being equally overt, slightly even more intoxicated, and not being one to say no to a good time, gladly indulged and pulled him closer as the music roared louder. They made their way through the crowd, bumping and grinding, and stumbled out the door to Caymus' sup'd up '69 Mustang Mach 1. Molly, being a thrill seeker with a new found love for Rutherford but a bigger love for adventure, shouted at Caymus as he gripped the wheel - "let's leave this state in our dust!" The two sped across the countryside, hand in hand, and finally ran out of gas as they crossed the state line into Washington. It was there they made love. A lovechild was born. It's name - Levitation. Levi for short.

For those confused - it drinks like a lovechild of Caymus and Molly Dooker coming from Washington. Not bad juice.
