Opus One

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2012

More than anything else about this wine, I love the texture. Not light like silk nor dense like velvet, it's more like a a soft cotton. Clearly really well made. — 8 years ago

Château de Beaucastel

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend

This wine needed about 3 hours to release. Initially tight with uncomfortable medicinal nose which then totally dissipated. Drinking now next day and you get the age of fully integrated but not fading tannins. Nose has a delightful dark fruit and smokiness. Great fit of nose and taste, meaning - when tastes after smelling the experience is consistent and not jolting. I think the color purple in a subdued way. Very nice. Memo to self: decant and watch for sediment, and enjoy three hours later. — 8 years ago

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2011

Took about an hour to open up but eventually opened up nicely. Sour Cherries, roses, raspberries. Still young with persistent tannins on the finish. Give it a couple more years. — 9 years ago

Close your eyes. Imagine cognac. Take a sip. What's this? A bourbon? Nay, an oh-so-yummy whiskey, says I. — 10 years ago

Great wine! Took about 45 min to open up but when it did... Wow! So amazed with still having black fruit flavors behind the cigar and moroccan leather! — 11 years ago

Silver Oak

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

My guest brought this in from there wine cell. I decanted the wine let it say for about 1 hour. I used a Osso to open this bad boy up, I didn't wanna break the cork. The cork came out smooth and beautiful. As for the wine, my guest gave me a lil taste and it was magnificent!! Smooth tannis bright fruit just awesome!! — 10 years ago

I've had no finer wine than this. Once it was decanted for about an hour the true character began to come out. After about 2 hours the pinnacle was reached. — 10 years ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Black and blue berries, earth, tobacco. Layered beautifully. Power and elegance in harmonious balance! Has so much more to go! Wish I saved this opening for about 10-12 more years! Makes me fall back in love with CA Cabs!!! — 8 years ago

Château Margaux

Premier Grand Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1954

What a treat. From the company to the antics of the cork removal, all was fantastic. Not surprised with some immediate mustiness on the nose, giving way to a rich but smooth aged blue cheese, mushrooms, soy sauce, earth, and just a faint hint of dried red fruit. Over the next 20 minutes the glass development was out of control, changing with each and every whiff and sip. Earthy umami, oxidative, and and slightly stewed reds to begin quickly opened to nice dried strawberries on the palate and nose, and advancing to moderately subdued ripened strawberries and cranberries- after 61 years and still kickin with fruit! Amazing. Then after about 20 minutes of rapid metamorphosis, it gave in and decided to fade to a very pleasant sipper...awesome. — 9 years ago
