This wine needed about 3 hours to release. Initially tight with uncomfortable medicinal nose which then totally dissipated. Drinking now next day and you get the age of fully integrated but not fading tannins. Nose has a delightful dark fruit and smokiness. Great fit of nose and taste, meaning - when tastes after smelling the experience is consistent and not jolting. I think the color purple in a subdued way. Very nice. Memo to self: decant and watch for sediment, and enjoy three hours later. — 9 years ago
What a treat. From the company to the antics of the cork removal, all was fantastic. Not surprised with some immediate mustiness on the nose, giving way to a rich but smooth aged blue cheese, mushrooms, soy sauce, earth, and just a faint hint of dried red fruit. Over the next 20 minutes the glass development was out of control, changing with each and every whiff and sip. Earthy umami, oxidative, and and slightly stewed reds to begin quickly opened to nice dried strawberries on the palate and nose, and advancing to moderately subdued ripened strawberries and cranberries- after 61 years and still kickin with fruit! Amazing. Then after about 20 minutes of rapid metamorphosis, it gave in and decided to fade to a very pleasant sipper...awesome. — 10 years ago
Wow! So Burgundian like as this is one of my favorite vintages, very underrated by the critics.
This showed the classic Rayas nose of strawberry, cherry, rhubarb and kirsch with lavender, very floral with rose petals notes. This was all about finesse & elegance. — 10 years ago
Towering about the other 5 wines in tonight's blind tasting, massive redfruits, great acidity hides the massive tannins, great wine that seems close to first growth quality!! — 11 years ago
The nose is very californian but the taste is reminiscent of old world wine! I love this crossover overtone between the fruit and the earth. The berries evolve after about half an our of breathing. Gripping tannins are still present which will make this bottle age longer. Approachable yet sublime. — 12 years ago
Black and blue berries, earth, tobacco. Layered beautifully. Power and elegance in harmonious balance! Has so much more to go! Wish I saved this opening for about 10-12 more years! Makes me fall back in love with CA Cabs!!! — 8 years ago
Mild tropical flavors, fresh and crisp, it's fantastic! — 9 years ago

Close your eyes. Imagine cognac. Take a sip. What's this? A bourbon? Nay, an oh-so-yummy whiskey, says I. — 10 years ago
Can't say enough about this wine awesome — 11 years ago
What can I say about Artemis? It is by far, probably my single most favorite bottle of wine. It's just good. Real good. — 12 years ago

Great wine! Took about 45 min to open up but when it did... Wow! So amazed with still having black fruit flavors behind the cigar and moroccan leather! — 12 years ago

This showed me what d'Yquem is about. Still a baby, but do beautiful tasting the progression over 4 hours. — 8 years ago
