Canto Sur Carménère Blend 2018

Very tasty and exciting blend. Herbal notes of Carmenere, sleekness of Carignan, dark savory notes of fig and raisin seed from 100yr old Pais. Drink now or hold 12-18 months.

País Salvaje 2017

Tastes like it came straight from some wild vines growing up in some trees...which it did...and is perfect in its own way. — 6 years ago

On the nose; black cherries, strawberries, black raspberries, cherries and raspberries, dark moist soils, bubble gum, gently minerals with red & pink roses.

On the palate; dry, sticky tannins, black cherries, strawberries, black raspberries, cherries and raspberries, dark moist soils, bubble gum, gently minerals with red & pink roses, beautiful acidy and well polished, elegant finish.

Photos of; an old gnarly vine of 100 plus years of age, the workers loaded the truck with grapes and The Truquilemu Vineyard.

Valle del Maule Red Blend 2002

Another winner from the 2002 vintage, this is a cabernet-driven bordeaux-style blend. The nose has really cool hints of rum of all things (maybe from the barrels?), along with older cab leather notes and hints of lavendar. Nicely balanced with a great finish, this is great wine to share with my former post-doc Monica Soler as our last bottle in Chile! — 8 years ago

T.H. Maule Carignan 2008

Great find at the Polvo wine bar in Santiago. I've never had Carignan but this jumps out with blackberry, licorice, woody flavour. Nothing subtle about it. High acid, but all round lovely wine. More research required. — 6 years ago

@Michael Bleszynski I am in Chile regularly on business, and I do enjoy Santiago because it is safe compared to other SA cities and there are some good restos. One gripe is there are not many wine bars in town to try out different producers. I also find that a lot of places have wine from the major producers but I'm getting better at finding some independent shops.

@AgeyFixey That’s pretty cool being able to be there frequently. Bocanariz was pretty decent. Really enjoyed aqui este coco. Hope you find some great wineries!

@Michael Bleszynski i usually try and get to Bocanriz on each visit! I tried for coco last time but it was closed that day. If you are ever back, try Borago. Unbelievable, but it is not cheap

Lovely wine, mostly smooth cherry flavour. I would rate it as the second before wine that I have tried. Really pleasantly to drink ( have to buy it again)! — 4 years ago

Armador Carménère 2008

Really interesting Chilean Red. This one had to improve with age! Dark fruits, poblano pepper with a touch of anise. Black pepper spice on the long finish. Great with beef! Thanks Ron! Revisited in March 2020. Wine has aged well. Does not taste like a typical Carmeniere. Very good. Revisited yet again in October 2020. Ditto. — 5 years ago

VIGNO Maule Carignane 2013

This did NOT suck! Luscious red and blue fruit, lavender essence, brilliant energy/acidity, some exotic spicyness dissolving into some tonal smoky minerality. Moderately long finish. I was not familiar with this producer but let the somm (at a restaurant with JB chops) guide me to something that made wonderful music with a brilliant pork collar feast. 100% Carignan...perhaps my first from Chile. And still a baby...should be even more fantastic in the 2020's. — 7 years ago
