Night before Keeneland! — 6 years ago
It’s been called “the greatest wine you’ve never heard of” or a true “unicorn” wine but is inarguably an under the radar California legend. In the early 2000’s it ran away with the title at a CA recreation of the 1976 Judgment of Paris. Google the wine and learn a little about Mario Gemello and this vintage in particular. Fun stuff. This was over the hill IMO but gets a 90 for coolness factor alone. From the master of the Durand @Matthew Beckman — 6 years ago
I really enjoy this not-too-sweet Riesling. Holds up well against spicy and flavorful Food. A good wine to have around the house. — 8 years ago

Ahhhhh....Ayze. Alpine fresh air on the nose. Wild flowers. Super airy and clean. I did not get cider like my partner @Matthew Cohen did. Super complex. So many unique and Gringet like scents. Hard to describe. Palate is wonderfully elegant and super expressive with major acidity and freshness. This needs air. Structure is dominant the first 15 minutes then it gets more expressive on the palate. Lovely tension on the finish. Super geeky and super delicious. — 5 years ago
This must be a great wine! I opened it for a family dinner and it all but disappeared before I could get a few ounces! Dark fruits and licorice with balanced tannins. I will have to buy more! — 6 years ago
Damn this is good!! Great work @Mike Smith @Matthew Denny — 6 years ago
(Catching up from 6/23 - JB’s Pig Roast) what a great treat from @Matthew Beckman. Didn’t immediately recognize this as a Pur Sang based on the old label A bit of funky cabbage on the nose to start, but this was amazingly in tact for a nearly 25 year old Sauv Blanc. Wow. — 7 years ago

Another rare creature from Forlorn Hope. Matthew never disappoints. This is 100% Trousseau Noir from Matthew's own Rorick Vineyard in the Sierra Foothills. Like the Jura with some extra California sunshine. Juicy with a little funk and a little herbaceousness. Pours a pale copper-inflected ruby. Nose of pomegranate and blood orange peel, Campari, fennel seed, crushed granite, a rose-y floral character, and guava. Perhaps the slightest hint of brett? But not at all distracting. Palate echoes the nose pretty congruently, still pomegranate and blood orange predominating with a little more spice and mineral focus. Light bodied, medium (+) acid, and just a tiny touch of soft tannin. If you were insistent on having a red wine as an aperitif, I can't imagine one much better than this one with its herbal, slightly bitter Campari-esque edge. Drink at cellar temp. Also a great option if you want a red with a charcuterie and cheese plate. — 8 years ago
At the Woodlands Dinner at Walters Steak House in Brisbane last Wednesday hosted by one of the family owners, Andrew Watson. The premium cuvée each year is named after Family members or friends. 2014 was “Matthew “. Drinking a 5 year old Cabernet of this quality from Magnum is akin to infanticide but one can see the undoubted potential there. Cellar for up to 20 years. Definitely one of the icon Cabs of Margaret River. A lovely blend of Cassis and Herbaceous notes. Medium to full bodied with a finish that goes on forever. Outstanding. — 5 years ago
While it also showed extremely youthful the ‘07 was on another level and IMO had shed more tannin than the ‘06. It was my last sip of the night and it was plush and beautiful and rounding out incredibly. Potential high 90’s wine in 10 years. Thank you @Matthew Beckman — 6 years ago
Delish! With a friend on a smoky night in SF. Slight buttery taste but not in a chardonnay way. Like real butter mixed with lemon citrus. — 6 years ago
A distinct salinity makes the 2012 vintage really something special. Awesome stuff, here, but what else is to be expected from Matthew Rorick? — 7 years ago
Hell yeah, @Matthew Beckman — 7 years ago
Delicious. Ended with a crisp fruity happy taste. — 8 years ago
Verdelho.Labeled California as it is a blend from Sierra Foothills (Rorick vineyard in Calaveras County and Dewitt's vineyard in Amador County) and Central Valley (Vista Luna Vineyard in Borden Ranch - Lodi AVA). Bright yellow. Intense, fresh nose with pineapple and ripe grapefruit. Taste corresponds to the smell, great mix of pineapple fruit and the subtle bitterness of ripe grapefruit, great balancing acidity, real depth and a long finish. Never tasted anything this good from this grape. Great stuff. Matthew Rorick strikes again! 2014 vintage. — 8 years ago

2017 Merlot. Fine finish. If you’re in love with merlot, as we are, you may find this wine to have the rich ground flavors of Napa with the finish of fine Bordeaux. Iaconis, I hug you. — 5 years ago
