A lovely robust second wine that needs more time to mature, this blend of 50% CS 50% Merlot has a deep garnet color , very expressive aromas of black current, cedar wood, black cherries, cigar box, tea leaves and plums, an excellent melange of earthiness and fruit, full body with firm dry tannins and great acidity, this wine is still young and needs more time to mellow and show his well masked smoothness, long dry delicious finish, after 8 hours starts to open up and deliver more complexity. My score 89, drink 2016-2022, next bottle in 2017 ;-) — 9 years ago
A mild earthy, sanguine note, that is masked by sweet, big red brambly fruit with slight floral notes. Medium acid, good tannins. Cranberry, red apple skins with dirt and tar finish. — 7 years ago
Deep Crimson in colour. Closed to begin with as a result of the Wine Fridge set a little cold. Aromas of currant, blackberry, roast meats, tar and liquorice. As the wine warmed up a hint of violets came through. None of the ashtray notes I have had with previous Spanish Monastrels. Palate is ripe, full bodied and obviously from a warm climate. From near Alicante on the east coast of Spain and therefore very Mediterranean. Ultra savoury with robust tannins. Aged in 500 litres Oak Barrels so the Oak is not overdone. Overall a fairly masculine wine and not particularly liked by my better half! Tasted 2nd and last bottle 107 weeks later on 18th April 2019. Ultra savoury / so much so that the fruit is masked. Aromas of tar and violet with a certain rusticity. Medium to full bodied with fine grainy tannins. — 8 years ago
This needs time. Maybe 2-3 more years at least to come around. Right now, the perfumy signature of Margaux is masked by tart-ish red fruits and new oak. Some minerality, slate, gravel notes. — 9 years ago

The winner of the Downs Club Premium Red taste off from 41 masked Reds. Not my final choice but democracy prevailed by 4 votes to 3. This was in my final 3. A nice balance of sweet red fruits with some spice and hint of pepper. Balanced and smooth. Will cellar up to 10 years but overall a little too sweet for my palate. Wonderful Pomerol!
The tobacco and wet forest aromas are almost intoxicating. The tannins need a bit more rounding, but still very good. The acidity is masked a bit by the tannins but once they soften, it reveals a beautiful wine. — 8 years ago
First time trying it and very pleased. Nice balanced acidity with MLF and oak flavor. Aromas of pineapple and butter. Relatively high alcohol masked by oak and MLF. Very smooth. — 9 years ago
Velvety and smooth. Attack has traces of dark cherries and light tannins. Finish is long and smooth with a splash of berries masked by tannins that start and finish the wine. — 9 years ago

Velvety and somewhat voluptuous for a barbaresco. Tannins are starting to be well integrated and masked by the fruit, with only a little noticeable tannin on the finish. Nice and drinking well now, but I’d wait a couple years. — 6 years ago
