Dear lord 😍😍😍 opened this up for good luck, hopefully Florence doesn’t blow our house down — 8 years ago
This is cuvée Simone with beautiful label design. Liked the juice as much as the label. — 8 years ago
Despite being the kind of guy that watches NASCAR for the 🔥 auto crashes, this wine was worth it's praise. As you could tell by the label design, this Cab blend was made in concert with Mr. Harlan for people that have been rumored to pay $100,000 to get their name on this unique blend. A benevolent act of kindness to gift me a bottle of a wine that has been said to beat out Scarecrow in '06. It really really was a great wine — 8 years ago
Patrina is essentially Alban's second label - mostly declassified barrels from Reva, Lorraine, and Seymour's if I remember what John told me. It's got a lot of the tell-tale characteristics of an Alban syrah in terms of the nose (e.g., the roasted meat, blackberries, and hints of iodine and camphor), just less of them. Medium-plus bodied on the palate. What it lacks - and why I rated it as low as I did - is any tannic backbone. I imagine this is in part by design: kinda like a Rosso di Montalcino to be consumed while the Brunellos are ageing in the cellar (in this case the "Brunellos" are Reva, Lorraine, and Seymours). Still a terrific wine for the price, though: lots of CA wines out there at double the price that deliver one-fouth what this does. Doesn't have the stuffing to age very long, though, so enjoy this one early!
(Increased my rating a bit - started evolving a bit more with time in the glass) — 9 years ago
Picked this baby up Nuit-Saint-George while touring France with the in-laws. Father-in-law currently in the cath lab for an inferior STEMI, so decided to break this one out of the archives. Best of luck, Ralph! — 7 years ago
My first wine from Corsica I think. More vibrant fruit than expected for a Mediterranean savoury wine. Also almond notes. From the native ?????? Grape. Must look up and edit. Good Wine. And now for the all day Grand Cru Burgundy tasting from the 2015 vintage at Prince Wine Store. Wish me Luck! — 7 years ago

14 year Priorat...
2004 was a stellar year but supposedly this is past peak. It probably is... as it feels "heavy". But, I should start with the good.
The nose has evolved from very smelly feet on open, through damp basement, to smoky socks. On the palate, some currant leaning raisin suggesting it is the indeed overdue.
It was a little laborious to drink. Big alc still and some tannins still there (good). Overall, I will not push my luck this long again on Priorat. Worth the 48 bucks though!

PS wife disagrees and puts it at 8/10 which is high on her scale. — 8 years ago
You can't ask much more from a Champagne. This new label was just released on the Avize Grand Cru, and this bottle was disgorged in only October of 2017. If you want one of the freshest Blanc des Blancs in the market, buy this now. High acid, mineral, tense, penetrating, saline, citrus, and only improves with time. Good luck holding onto it, we drank 3 bottles in less than 4 hours. Truly one of the great values to be found today. Available at Prospect Wine Shop in Park Slope. — 8 years ago
Burgundy meets da Vinci. Pretty and floral with beautiful design morphed into something more muscular from meat stock city. — 9 years ago
Wow. Just when I can’t take another slim, emaciated glass of lemon water, I luck out and get an old-school Chablis that isn’t afraid to show its class. Rich, but still refined and inspired. — 7 years ago
Very good red wine. Peppery — 7 years ago
Pours just as dark and violet-tingled as all of the other Paloma merlots I've had the luck to open. However, this wine from the nose and from the entry has a lot of cherry cola notes going on. Less chocolate than the 2010 had, but the density of this wine is unmistakably present. I am really impressed by the mature quality of this merlot on the front given its youth. Soft front and middle, acidity really starts to peak more on the finish. Wine really softens with some fatty and salty foods. Has 10 years left quite easily. — 8 years ago
Your friend comes back from Hawaii and they bring you a lava rock which they’re not supposed to because it’s bad, bad, very bad luck but you always had a thing for risking the superstitious odds and not sending along chain emails, so you’re into this bad luck rock. They also bring you a lei with less flowers than you’ve seen on leis at the dollar store but you put it on and crack your best pseudo smile for them because dammit they love you and they did what they could, short of bringing you on their romantic vacation. Honestly if they did bring you, you know you’d get into one of your “moods” and not only would you be a hard third wheel, you’d also be named the pity party hostess of the year. Cherries, ash, dried flowers, tannic structure like a good skipping stone. — 8 years ago
French night tonight.
Excellent second label from Angelus, from the 05 breakout vintage.
Lovely notes of jam compote, cinnamon and barrel toast. On the palette, notes of sweet tobacco, black raspberries and soy sauce. Outstanding texture with ripe tannins. For a second wine, we were blown away. Good luck trying to locate this on the open market.
Thanks @Mo Salem for bringing this gem! — 9 years ago

This was my contribution. As I have really gotten in to Aussie wines the last year or two, I’ve always wanted to try this wine (of any vintage), and couldn’t believe my luck when a local acquaintance who is wanting to downsize his cellar offered me two bottles at an amazing price. Upon opening, I was hit with smoked brisket, touch of bacon fat, and ripe blackberries. Not quite gamey or funky, but definitely savory in style. As it opened, the meat/savory notes came and went ever so often, allowing purity of the blackberries, boysenberries, and black cherries to shine. Charcoal smoke with baked fig arrive at the finish. A complex, delicious wine, and right up my alley for the style of wine I enjoy. @David T , you were correct in thinking I’d love this! — 7 years ago
