Somehow whenever I know that I am drinking a wine to young I see @David T scolding me! I do highly respect his insights and the plan was to wait three more years!
But the realization that I was going to need to sacrifice a bottle; that I can Hopefully replace came late this afternoon.
Most likely we are going to be saying goodbye to our hyperthyroidism kitty " Patience" tomorrow. It has been a long battle and she would have turned 15 July 31st. So some self medicating is warranted! 😓.
Although this wine is delicious even young! Ripe Bing Cherries...licorice...bubble gum..tea leaves and moist forest floor! Delicious wine! I will try to obtain another bottle and let it age longer! — 4 years ago
Nose has spicy cherry, tanned leather, juiced raspberry-blackberry, cigar box, cocoa nibs, exceptional.
Palate has blackberry reduction, ripe cherry mash, moist leather, cedar shavings, light mocha, nice acidity and dissipating tannins are gentle, long finish.
We've been enjoying these Heredia crianzas for many years, but they do need time to settle in and we're still drinking these too young, but damn they are guilty pleasures.
Decanted 2+hrs, drink now or enjoy over the next 4-6 years without concern.
$22, yes I know that reads like a crazy price, because it is, only patience is required! — 5 years ago
with a little bit of patience, it gives light berry taste with soft tannins. — 6 years ago
Popped and poured; consumed over three hours. Tremendous Cerretta. Looks like ox blood in the glass...incredible visual with zero signs of age. Intoxicating aromas of kirsch, pie crust, tar, fresh roses, and tiramisu. On the palate it was all kirsch and sous bois supported by a mountain of tannins still, 12 years in. Beautiful acidity and the finish sits with you for well over half a minute. It was still going strong by the time we reached the bottom of the bottle. This wine will last for decades to come and I have expectations for it to start showing its best closer to 2025. Drink with patience or hold. — 7 years ago
Splash decanted and served immediately; enjoyed over the next four hours. On the nose, it smells like 2015…gorgeous and giving with fresh, ripe cherry, dry earth and green herbs. The bouquet opened up over time and just seemed to gain power and intensity adding blood orange and red flowers. On the palate, this is bone-dry with silky texture and huge structure which also seemed to go from strength to strength. The finish is long and ever so satisfying. Drink now with a lot of patience or enjoy through 2040. — 2 years ago
Leoville Barton Saint Julien Grand Cru Classe is a lovely Bordeaux that shines again again over vintages. It seems to me that it never surrendered to the Parker impact and stayed true to its old school nature of restrained power and complexity at a good value.
This wine needs time to mature, it’s not made for early drinking and it requires patience and this patience pays of!
The 1998 is simply singing these days and I am so happy I secured a case! The wine is earthy with notes of dry leaves, dump forest floor, coffee, licorice, black currents and cigar box, the body is full and complex with lovely dry tannins that add a nice touch of sophistication and complexity, the finish is long and elegant. Old school and delicious!
My score 91, drink to 2024 — 4 years ago
“Let me tell you somethin’! Let me tell you...✋🏼. Don’t drink these now. Seriously. Just don’t. Five years from now? That’s probably okay. But not now. Unless...unless you are willing to decant for an extended period of time or slow-ox for three days. Patience will be rewarded however if you allow time to do its work. Only then do you get the classic Rafanelli of red and dark fruit with chocolate, coffee, tobacco and baking spices; executed in a most seductive fashion. Sound structure. The finish is long. This is a great vintage from Rafanelli with a long life ahead. Better after 2025. — 4 years ago
Super young but showing so well. Beautifully perfumed. I’m sure will reward a little patience if you can manage. — 6 years ago
Perhaps the best box 📦 Wine I’ve ever had. — 6 years ago
Restores my faith in Santa Cruz Mountain Chardonnay. Lifted nose of ripe pear and saddle leather. The oak is integrated and still enough acidity to accent the creamy richness. Beautiful balance and long silky finish. The wine is in a nice spot but I still think it will reward some patience. — 7 years ago
Again, patience rewarded! This baby has rich but softening tannins , bright fruits and that elegance that defines a Nebbiolo. I am told that this winemaker, in particular, never misses. This might be the vintage that supports that acclaim — 2 years ago
Patience is paying off as this bottle of the ‘12 was much more integrated then one pulled a few years ago. Cherry, cassis, leather and maybe some pencil lead and pepper, all layered nicely over some still firm tannins. One more in the cellar and thinking it could be even better! — 3 years ago
Reticent and austere at the beginning but then started to open up. Dark red fruits, savory notes, violets emerge. It has good acidity and tannin balance but the austerity is going to require more patience. — 5 years ago
Bought this on release and cellared since. This is showing well with no urgency to open now. I’ve always been a fan of the Backus, but this is certainly a good value if you have patience and cellar space. — 5 years ago
he wine itself is intensely aromatic leading with touches of violets, lavender and blue gum before notes of black currant, cassis, ripe plums, liquorice, dark chocolate and some toasty oak. Immediately assertive in the palate with power being the defining message, the wine is extremely focused with inherent freshness nestled within its big frame. It’s extremely youthful and those with patience will surely be rewarded, but jeeze it’s hard to stop drinking it now 🔥 — 6 years ago
A blend of 58% Cabernet and 42% Merlot, aged for 26 months in French oak (67% new). I'll start off by saying this wine is good now but will be great in another 5-10 years if you have the patience. Rich aromas of dark fruit and mineral spice. Raspberry and juicy cherry with notes of licorice, currants and floral spice. Fine dusty tannins with a rustic edge, well integrated, nice balance, lingering ending with earthy tones. — 7 years ago

2019 vintage. Flashback to the Les Pavots 1992 vintage with one. Some structure and power but less than usual. Concentration decent with plenty of harmony throughout. Missing that top-notch grip that his wine is known for. Patience-either cellaring or a loong decant/wait would likely yield more. — a year ago
