Time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Here is a tasty one from Virginia.
Dark ruby in color with a nice reddish rim.
Fruity nose with blueberries, currants, bing cherries, honeysuckle, light oak, red candy, spices, dark coffee, vanilla, dark chocolates, light vegetables and black pepper.
Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity and pretty legs.
Dry on the palate with cherries, sweet strawberries, black currants, light wood, spices, black pepper, earth, bitter herbs and tobacco leaf.
Medium plus in finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a very interesting wine from Virginia. A nice Bordeaux blend that warrants food, although pretty nice by itself too. Tangy and soft, with a nice mouthfeel and mild complexity.
Needs 30 minutes to open up properly, but so much nicer after 90 minutes in a decanter, when it really comes together.
Could be mistaken for a California Bordeaux blend, except for the honeysuckle nose, that i usually find in wines from the Southeast of the US.
Nice and engaging with lively acidity and a tangy finish.
Would be nice to see how it ages in the next 5 years.
I enjoyed it with Brie cheese.
A blend of 41% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc, 23% petit verdot, and 4% Malbec.
13.6% alcohol by volume.
90 points.

Off-vintage but tasty. A bit of a mouldy nose, eucaliptus, pine, herbs, blackcurrants and blueberries. Really strong presence of a pencil shaves note. Not as heavy and concentrate as it is. — 8 years ago
Nectar of the Gods in a bottle! Beautiful silky tannins, earth, dusty notes, espresso and tobacco, oak, white pepper, slight sage and menthol. On the palate , fruit making way for baking spices, nutmeg and cinnamon. 8 years old now but will get another to hold out for ten year mark.

Fabulous table wine. The Australian version of The Chocolate Block. Affordable too. From Wine Rack in Belsize. — 6 years ago
This is close to perfection
Fairly big body not huge, but driven by an agility, suppleness, drinkability tremendously out of the ordinary
I have had other vintages and I must admit 2012 is arguably the best or close second to the 98.
Statement :I love Clare Valley shiraz, it is surely the most Rhone like 100% shiraz, for the big bold body u need to add malbec or mataro. Almost flawless
Silky tannin and long — 6 years ago
When you live the dream!!Deep ruby color like this baby just got few years old on the nose an explosion of fruits combined with the miracle of the aged cabernet with notes of cinnamon cigar mushroom black truffle violet liquorice red orange and pink pepper i wish i had another bottle to open in 10 years time!! — 7 years ago

Powerful aromas and flavours with grainy savoury tannins. These Wendouree Reds are built to last and I am starting to realise that they are best after 15 years. Certainly another 10 years in this one. Very Australian with Eucalypt/Menthol and earthy minerality - more savoury than fruit driven - not surprising at 17 years of age. — 7 years ago
R character modified by terroir and style to bright acidity and firm gorgeous tannins. Richness and intensity belies the thought of Pinot blanc — 9 years ago
So delicious!!! Much better than the roast beef *it should have been a pot roast but I was hungry. The vegetables with it made up for the toughness of the meat! With a proper roast beef would be spectacular...One of the best reds I've had in years! — 4 years ago
Great Shiraz, nice age, smooth, silky tannins and blackcurrant fruit with hints of mint and cedar. Nose is a little restrained initially but opens up with time. A really solid wine, very enjoyable, will probably develop further but drinking very well now. — 6 years ago
Lots of lime flavour, nice polish river style. — 7 years ago
Gorgeous laser beam of lemon cream and acid. — 7 years ago
Starting the week off with the 2011 King Estate Pinot Noir from Eugene, OR. King Estate is located 20 miles southwest of Eugene, OR on the southwest edge of the Willamette Valley on 1033 acres certified organic vineyard. I tried this four years ago and it has seemed to have matured a bit sunce then in those four years. A more pleasurable wine this time around.
On the nose there is beautiful fruit of strawberry, cherry, red raspberry, cranberry, vanilla, a little barnyard, cola and a slight bit of licorice.
On the palate I am getting sour cherry, tart strawberry, red raspberry, pomegranate, vanilla, eucalyptus and a light oak note.
The wine is medium bodied with medium + acidity and medium smooth tannin that leads right into a medium to long beautiful tart fruit prolonged finish. A very nice wine that is an easy drinker. The week is starting off right so have a great week and be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 8 years ago

Opened up really nicely after a bit of air. Superb dusty notes of ripe satsuma plum, dark berries and very soft smooth tannins. Bloody good really! — 4 years ago
