Green apples. Bright, light clean crisp finish — 8 months ago
Medium garnet color with enticing nose of earthy red fruits, hints of menthol and lively, fresh and stimulating texture, great balance and good acidic bite and long finish. Excellent. 12.5 ABV. No idea it’s “all natural “ wine. Mylene Bru production. All old vine Carignan, 2700 bottles. JL 20. — 5 years ago

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2010 pours a light straw color with a persistent mousse. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tart tropical fruits: star fruit, passion fruit, lightly toasted brioche, and gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with high acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and absolutely loaded with minerals. The texture is notable as starts creamy and then seems to thin out. This leans heavily towards its structure; almost to the point of austerity. Needs and air and food to unlock its best. Drink now through 2035. — 6 months ago
Wonderful vintage bubbly with nose-smacking yeastiness straw stones funkiness followed by toasty full throttled mouth feel and long complex finish. Surprised Wilson Mabel not the usual bright style. Stood up to every dish at Mom dinner. Impressive. Just saw bought from JL tasting in 2016! — 4 years ago

unusual blend of Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot & Teroldego (!) and it was really impressive. color of squid ink w/wafting aromas of blackberry pie, boysenberry, plum, Chambord, cassis, cocoa powder, vanilla and some pepper. one of the more decadent wines on the nose, and the flavors created a saturated palate - that said, didn't taste like a fruit bomb, nicely structured w/integrated tannins. it may have lacked a bit of polish, but over delivered for $13 @costco — 8 months ago
It’s always a resounding ‘YES’ for JL Chave!!
That includes this luscious and concentrated Syrah from Saint-Joseph AOC in the Northern Rhône of France.
Domaine Jean-Louis Chave is a benchmark and icon of the Rhône Valley – a family-run operation since 1481 – with an entire range of deliciousness through the Domaine Jean-Louis Chave and JL Chave Selection portfolios.
This wine is deep ruby, trending on purple. It has pronounced aromas and flavors of boysenberry, blueberry, black cherry, cassis, pomegranate, also violet, bacon, sanguine, saddle leather, pipe tobacco, clove, cigar, damp earth, and black peppercorn. Alcohol is high (14.5% ABV) with medium (+) fine-grained and well-integrated tannins, medium (+) acidity, a medium (+) body, and a long, elegant finish.
It has a rustic and savory character with robust dark fruit notes; it’s layered, complex, structured, and age-worthy, benefitting from decanting. Still, it’s tasting wonderfully now.
Cheers to JL Chave and treasures of the Rhône!! — 2 years ago
