Mid weight with ripe, juicy cherries and pomegranate, some earthy undertones and an uplifting mineral irony note. On the palate very juicy, with great balance and smooth tannins. Juicy cherries till the end. Drinking very nicely right now. — 6 years ago
Irony in the title given its dinner for one. Good wine. Nice tannins. — 7 years ago
I've been curious about this wine for some time. The original 05 Ausone review from Parker was revised and one would think it was at the request of the Chateau. Parker's 💯 point review started something like this...if you are over the age of 55, you'll want to decide if you want to buy this this wine. Largely, due to his call on it's years of drinkability; which was from 2055-80. Parker's review was mysteriously revised within two months of it's original review. Tonight, I Coravin-ed this tasting of the Chapelle D'Ausone. The 05 Chapelle D'Ausone is still very big & tight but starting it's journey into a decent drinking phase. The tannins are still chewy and dark. The fruits are; ruby blackberries, dark cherries, a mix of blue fruits, strawberries paint the back palate, dark & milk chocolate, caramel, Christmas cake, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, spice-box, black tea, a whiff of green bell peppers, irony minerals, loamy soils, tree bark, a touch of leather, lead pencil shavings, dry stems, dry stones & dark moist soil. The acidity is perfect. The structure, length, balance and tension flirt with glory. The finish runs ripe to dry fruit and the minerals are rich with a dark elegance that lasts and lasts. As good as this wine is tonight, I'll put this bottle back; which is 1 of a 6 pack and wait another 7-10 years to reopen it. Both of Ausone's 05 wines are meant for most collectors end of life or meant to be left for their children. — 7 years ago
Superb nose with tar, meat juice, black currant, an irony thing. This is inviting and strong, very inviting. The palate is wonderful! Super acid backbone with a bright black currant all along, a velvety touch on the sides that remains all along, tannins have already started to integrate. There is width, there is length, there is fruit, there is grip. The finish lasts for a long time with a nice fruit, some meat juice too and a pinch of bitterness. V

Not too fruity but slight flavors of cherry and lots of oak — 5 years ago
Great! Not too sweet or oaky. — 7 years ago
Santa Claud sings jazz to you in a small bar in Normandy, and you're cold but ruddy. Is this stand up or true mirth? It's the holiday you imagine in a bar near Skid Row in Downtown LA when you take a sip of this and are transported by a northern bite to your tongue. Irony or sincerity--it's so fresh but so sweet! I could go for more fizz, but one only feels permitted to request such things when engulfed by luxury — 7 years ago
Rose, stone fruit, irony, lemon grind, quite enjoyable. — 7 years ago
Black currant, red forest fruits, licorice, irony wet and heavy soil. The palate is well done with a strong acid backbone, some black currant on the sides, some nice velvetty touch on the sides. This is not very wide nor very powerful but it rolls in the mouth. The tannins are fully integrated now and leave room for a tanguy, fruity finish with a pinch of bitterness. This is simple and well done but I expected a bit more structure and power considering the vintage. — 4 years ago
Is there any better fix to feel like home when you live abroad?
Cherry and cola bomb on the nose along with earthy and irony notes. The palate is a wonderful example of balance with a dense matter, with a kind of thickness to it, some velvety touch on the sides and a bright, ripe cherry all along. Very long finish with cherry and this irony note which plays for a while.
This is, as always, a freaking hit! — 5 years ago
