An absolute beast a wine! Needs a short decant to open up and let the glycerol smell and taste blow off. I decanted for 30 min.
Huge dark fruits, charcoally smokiness, and spice. Inky deep deep black color and of course it doesn't get any more full body than this. — 9 years ago
I am a Huge fan of Scouts Honor. However this 2014 was so jammy right out of the bottle, we almost passed it up. We gave it over and hour and drank the Philip Togni for a while. (Amazing). Coming back to it, the jam died down and the excellent fruit blend came through. Lesson learned. Don't give up on this historically great wine! Just give it time. — 9 years ago

That one definitely had some Caymus to it,This is massive! Huge concentrated black and blue fruits, chocolate and eucalyptus. Still young and has many years ahead of it but why wait? — 10 years ago
Huge white pepper, great tannic structure, dark fruits. Unfortunately too drunk to remember anything else. There is a fog of "oh my God" but not sure why.... — 10 years ago
Aromatic, charred red bell pepper. Extracted, dark, serious. — 7 years ago
Oily on the nose. Huge flavor. Has many years ahead. 2014 vintage. — 7 years ago
Immense nose of sweet jammy vanilla lovleyness. Huge mouthfeel. Long long length. A bruiser. Immense. A bit much for me. Maybe not a great food wine but fun to see. — 8 years ago
@David L Thank you David for sharing this incredible beauty with me! Such a soft, opulent rich wine. The bottle age definitely helped and was evident throughout. Drinking superbly right now and I imagine would evolve for another 15+ years! It was that good!!!!
I am biased, I am a huge fan of Spottswoode. I felt like a kid that robbed a candy store when I uncorked this one. I hadn't tasted their 2003! It was in my top three for wine of the night. Swing, batter batter swing, homerun! — 9 years ago

I can almost chew this wine its so big and bold! This is Campo de Borja 2016 Alto Moncayo. The color is deep Burgundy. The legs are slow and thick. The bouquet, fields of lavendar and lilac. The initial palate is amazing!!!!! Huge blackberry, boysenberry and raspberry. Then there is a small hint of cherry in the background somewhere. You can tell these vines are really old. The mid palate is phenomenal. Spice and vanilla- yum! Lots of oak and earth. The thickness reminds me of a juicy filet mignon. The finish is dry and lingering with the feel of butter left behind. Time to serve with dinner:
Filet mignon, baked potato, mustard greens, and a french baguette. Happy St. Valentine’s day to me!!!!!!! — 7 years ago
This will only get better with age and it’s already terrific. The biggest takeaway for me was the lingering taste of hot chocolate mix; subtle but undeniable. The bouquet is stuffed with cedar shavings, the dark fruit is strong but not obnoxious and the tannins coat the tongue, rather than attack it. — 8 years ago
Open for three hours. Huge nose and taste at first approach. — 8 years ago

Wow! Inky dark, big, bold and viscous. Some smokiness on the nose. The palate is huge, well integrated, balanced, with cassis, tobacco, and other bramble dark fruits. Just really, really well made. — 9 years ago
Outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon. — 9 years ago
2009 Screaming Eagle cabernet. The single Cal cab we drank during the K charity wine dinner. Massive wine- we decanted about 2 hours by the time it was served and it was still enormous. A little bit unfair to drink this after the '90 Cheval and '90 Rothschild. This wine was just all around bigger in every way- more fruit, riper fruit, heavy leather and tobacco, huge tannins, plus additional savory notes of olives, and game. Fun to try it in the order we did and definitely noted that we can decant for longer next time. — 10 years ago
Huge bargain for good Napa cab — 10 years ago

Only a few sips left. Pairs well with air and probably fatty foods but I only bought one bottle so just enjoying. so glad I don’t have to share. — 6 years ago
