Was lucky to be invited by Raj and the Evening Land crew to dinner tonight to taste through some of the old wines side by side with the new releases. Before and after we tasted some of Raj and Sashi’s favorite wines and champagnes. This was one of the best wines I’ve ever tasted in my life. Completely transcendent, inspiring, one of a kind, amazing, perfect, fruit, acid, alcohol, tannin, structure, salinity, gorgeous. Bright rose gold with moderately quickly dissipating mousse and fine bubbles (meaning it’s properly chilled 🙂). Royal Anne cherries on the nose, confirmed on the medium full palate with toasted brioche. Bright, mouthwatering acidity reigns in the mouth, and the finish is long and bready. A Burgundian blanc de noirs that I’d put up against similar Champagnes any day, but without the Champagne price. Equally at home in a celebratory toast or accompanying an oceanic meal.
