Last night I opened the 2015 Baer Star Merlot Stillwater Creek Vineyard Columbia Valley. A blend of 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc.

On the nose there is black cherry, cherry, blackberry, plum, violet, chocolate, allspice and black pepper.

On the palate there is cherry, black cherry, blackberry, red currant, licorice, espresso, and chocolate.

This wine is medium to full bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and medium to + acidity with medium soft fine tannins that leads into a long black fruit finish. Nice regal gold hue. Amazing pit fruit and wet stone nose. Plus notes of apricot, white clay soil, salty ocean breeze and some Raveneau honey on the finish. Rich and powerful in the mouth. Coats the palate with lots of fruit and fine grained acidity. I’ve had this a few times and this was at its best. Great Raveneau at age 30 is an amazing treat. — 6 years ago

This is 16 despite the label. Awesome nose. Big cherry fruit, some sweet oak, mint, soil tones, and just an amalgam of intense fruit. Really elegant and juicy with lithe silky tannins and such purity. Terrific structure and top notch finesse. Amazing purity and elegance. Long finish and very chewy. I think needs 3-4 years and/or a 3 hour decant. Terrific focus and freshness. Stunning balance. Awesome. Lovely stuff. — 6 years ago

Great color in the decanter... medium gold with an enticing perfume. Notes of sweet Meyer lemon, apricot, gravel stone, tan clay, some mint, a little ginger and some sweet marzipan. Has an exotic and slightly musty (desirable) funk. Huge weight with great fruit and solid acidity in the mouth. Decanted for 2 hours before drinking. Awesome juice! Medium plus in body with medium acidity and nice long legs.

Tangy finish with medium, round tannins.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, sweet cherries, vanilla, wood, earth, barnyard, vegetables, spices, smoke and dark coffee.

Soft and smooth and very enjoyable. Feels like an old world wine.

Had it blind and called Austrian red. Wrong.

Made with local grapes grown around the winery. Organic.

Pale light yellow gold. Lively constant tiny bubbles. Deep round nose with high pitched fruit. Notes of pear, grapefruit, chalk and limestone. With more air you find some citrus and honeysuckle. Chewy in the mouth with great mouthfeel. Coats the entire mouth. Long finish lingers a minute or more. Velvet. Killer juice. Was inspired to open one of these after seeing a friend’s TN this weekend. Light gold color, youthful in the glass. Notes of lemon, white peach, honeysuckle, some spearmint, some white acacia flowers and a nice tropical sea breeze. Tight and solid in the mouth, despite 2 hours of air in a decanter. Has a great minerality in its delivery. Good structure and acidity. Light gold. Looks young. Took 5 hours to open up and show its stuff. In hour 6 this was cruising. Saline and sea shells, wispy lemon fruit, some honey, some white stone. The guesses from the fellas were 2002 Rav Clos and 1996 Rav Valmur. Shows how these properly stored aged Raveneaus can age effortlessly. — 5 years ago
