Opened this to impress some friends during a Pinot tasting. Upon opening we all agreed there was too much vanilla attributed to the oak. Wine opens up nicely after a while, but all-in-all preferred the 2011.
Edit: After 6 months or so in the bottle the oak aromas have dissipated and the wine is drinking fantastically. Sad to hear Gary Farrell has retired as the winemaker, but excited to see what they produce in the future. — 10 years ago
Really enjoyed this 2007 last night with a yummy Mexican dish! We love their Pinot Noir so much that I sometimes forget how good this Zin is! 🍷 — 10 years ago

This was a great Chard. Tasted very fresh, good acidity and balance. Had a touch of wet stone with toasty brioche. — 9 years ago
Quite deep colour with an almost orange tinge. Bouquet is quite musky, again with orange notes. A smooth and luxuriously thick mouthfeel but needs to be well chilled to prevent that becoming flabby. A lip-smacking lemon meringue and orange / cointreau flavour. A very good value everyday drinking wine. — 10 years ago

Least favorite our of the 3 but still good. Just a little lighter and not as complex as the other 2 — 12 years ago

I've got a soft spot for Eberle because it was one of the first wineries I visited way back when I first got into wine. Rouse's was closing it out for $10, and since Gary Eberle first planted Syrah in the central coast in 1975 I couldn't pass it up. Not to mention, he's an LSU Alum. http://www.lsualumni.org/news/Big-Man-Big-Wine — 9 years ago

I love the fruit the comes from SLH and Gary does a great job with this offering. Very complex nose-omnidirectional comes to mind. Red beets, cinnamon sticks and dried berries on the nose. Savory on entry, slight spice on the mid palate with blackberry, and a Montreal steak season flavor on the back of the palate. Extremely layered. Slight underbrush finish that's persistent. — 9 years ago
