Light gold, not showing much age in the glass. Heavy weight like motor oil. Exotic and exciting nose. Notes of citrus, sweet apricot, wet river stone, some flint and petrol, some tan spice and some ripe peach. Sappy fruit in the mouth balanced against the still-strong acidity and structure. Drinking well now, especially with 5 hours of air, this has a long life in front of it and is just hitting its stride. Love the 99 Leflaives! — 4 years ago
Now, this is a Champagne worthy of my last year in my current decade.
It’s not inexpensive but, there’s a reason for that.
From the moment I put my nose to the glass, I got a a sense of warm, inviting delicacy. There is; cream, soft ginger, fall green apples, mango, guava, slightly sour lemons, lime zest/candy, perfectly, ripe pineapple, white peach, green melons, lightly bruised pear, marmalade jam, as soft as white spice can be, grey volcanics, good chalkiness, vanillin, sea spray, lovely, melted caramel notes, yeast, bread dough to baguette crust, non funky cheese rind, toast, silvered almonds to nut skin with white & lilies, jasmine and spring flowers.
The palate enters like Tango dancers & cross-fades into ballet. Perfect richness, mousse & micro-oxygenation with gentle, absolute, perfect acidity. The minerality is fine, delicate & straight up in my wheelhouse. Cream, understated, melted butter, ginger, fall, Granny Smith apples, mango, guava, slightly sour lemons, lime zest/ peel/candy, perfectly, ripe pineapple, white peach, peach, tangerine, green melons, lightly bruised pear, some apple cider, marmalade jam, honeysuckle, herbaceousiness, a shade of mint, as soft as white spice can be, delicate, grey volcanics with limestone, good chalkiness, vanillin, sea spray, lovely, melted caramel notes, yeast, bread dough to baguette crust, non funky cheese rind, toast, silvered almonds to nut skin with, orange blossoms, white & lilies, jasmine and spring flowers. The long, amazing, well balanced finish is simply Mozart.
The 02 is a blend of 39% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay & 21% Pinot Meunier. This bottle spent at least 12 years in Krug's cellars, receiving its cork in autumn 2014.

Lovely deep fruit. Very intense and coiled steel with buckets of minerality and drive. There’s a whiff of stewed apple here. I see premox on the horizon, but this is fun now. Should be better in 5 years but certainly not this bottle. — 7 years ago
Toasted notes of caramel and space are intermingled with deep dark fruit flavors. — 7 years ago

Vintage 2015 | Chenin Blanc that is very useful to combine with food. I drank this with 1) rillettes, 2) prunes with bacon from grill, 3) charcuterie. With the prunes it was perfection. Smell with flint, peaches and a hint of papaya, great acidity, but off dry why it combines so good with different foods. Nice to drink a wine from this small appellation with so much potential. — 5 years ago
Rather muted nose of oyster shell, lemon and flint - awesome evolution on the palate fatty in the middle with a lingering finish. Fantastic. Competes at GC level - this one feels a bit quieter at the start, but its lingering finale completes a perfect picture. Aerate. — 5 years ago
Lovely and composed. Limpid lime, oyster shells, flint. Rounded and supple. Very focused and in place. Delicious. — 6 years ago

Lemon, quince, French oak, minerals, grapefruit, and steel. Medium minus alcohol and high acid. — 4 years ago
straw yellow, glints of green, pale watery rim; aromatic, grapefruit, honeydew melon, freshly cut grass, subtle oak; medium body, dry, crisp acidity, 13.8% ABV; made by Dan Petroski who makes Cabernet Sauvignon for Larkmead, 100% Sauvignon Blanc, fermented 70% in stainless steel, sourced from Juliana Vineyard in Pope Valley in Napa Valley, vines originally planted in 1993 for Robert Monday to produce their Napa Valley Fumé Blanc; $30 — 5 years ago
After a very disappointing 2014 Les Preuses for lunch wanted to make sure I hadn’t lost faith in Piuze. So tried this for dinner and this time from a perfect wine cellar 😀. This a quite a different bottle, saline, pear, flint and medium weight. The 2014 was a fluke😀 — 5 years ago
Lush and delicious - stainless steel and concrete keep this honest, fruit driven and energetic. Still has a full almost creamy mouthfeel but driven by crystalline orchard fruit, smoky minerals, and piercing citrus acidity. Fresh, drinkable, but complex and worthy of pairing with a great meal. — 7 years ago
$210, yes. Thankfully no signs of pre-mox. Slightly honeyed, reductive / gun flint nose that faded with air to smoke. Lime zest, peach, orange blossom, integrated smoke on palate. Great minerality and acidity, impressively long finish. Likely reaching peak soon. — 7 years ago

Saffron, yeast, flint, dried citrus peels, Ginger, green tea. Enormously complex and intriguing.
Brilliant stuff. — 3 years ago
