I have posted the 2015, but not this one (to my knowledge). Whereas 2015 is definitely more strawberry crush and red fruited in general, this 2016 is more watermelon, pink grapefruit, and mango on the front. The wine is very acidic on the front. The wine is of medium weight with sharp acid. There is a little less fruit here than the 2015 overall. The wine is still rather solid to the finish with the watermelon and mango notes, some kiwi here as well. I think this has very good aging potential. I think the 2016 Rose wines from the TX Hill Country are all less strawberry on a whole. But all, with exception to one thus far, are pretty damn delicious. — 8 years ago

Strong in colour for a 14 year old Wine. Notes of dried florals like Lavender. Rich and flavoursome, earthy with an animale note. Going strong at nearly 15 years of age with M + intensity. Saw 3 of these in the boss' cellar tonight and thought I would give it another try. My impressions of it were pretty darn good a year ago, and OH MAMA they're even better this year. This wine is NOT over the hill. If it's over the hill, it wasn't stored correctly. This wine was DELICIOUS. Ran the table tonight and we pretty much stopped opening wines and opened up all 3 of these from the cellar. Dark black fruit, grilled meat, smoky characteristics up front. This wine is JAM PACKED with a flinty middle and finish. Tannin had completely resolved, therefore I don't believe there is any more than 3-4 years left in this wine. First bottle drank incredibly well over a two-hour period. Finished with a flinty blackberry and cocoa. I have zero of these left in my personal collection! — 8 years ago

Perfect if you like'em aged; this is a liquid gas station when the sun sets in a dusty and varm area. Very far from the elegant GG's in Germany but still offers layers of fruit and great length, this show ripeness but also restraint. Beautiful wine. This wine is really showing nicely opening up as the night goes on with a good amount of cigar box spice black earth 3/4 red mountain fruit but it changes every year both have red willow merlot far western Yakima I'm he foothills the sours are the omers and they built a chapel on the hill and buried a bottle of hermitage there in honor of the oldest Syrah vineyard in Washington — 12 years ago

It’s in a great spot right now and easily has another 15 years ahead of it.

RIP to the late Zlatan who passed a month ago.

Zlatan Otok is one of my favourite wineries in Croatia. I appreciate every single one of the wines that I've tried but that said, this Zlatan Otok 2010 Crljenak is my absolute fave.

In 2001 a research, funded by Mike Grgich of Judgement of Paris fame, on the origin of Zinfandel came to fruition. It confirmed that Zinfandel and Primitivo came from Croatia. Unfortunately at the point of discovery, the vines of Crljenak in Croatia was near extinction. Today, only a handful of Croatian wineries still produce this wine. As far as I've tried, the Zlatan Otok 2010 Crljenak is the best representation of this variety.

Notes: Colour is dark garnet with some clarity. On the nose, I get cboth red and black fruit, white and black pepper, slightly perfumey like amber and musk. The palate reflects exactly what's on the nose, carried off by vibrant acidity and prominent minerality. Tannins are slightly coarse but sweet, which means it should be aged in the bottle for a while longer but ready to be enjoyed now. What I love most is how it opens up and expresses itself on the palate like a triangle--from narrow and shy to wide and lively. This Crljenak has lighter body than most Californian Zinfandel.

The final conclusion: Yes please! It's slightly cheaper than Lytton Springs, and I'm getting more pleasure from this. — 9 years ago

Bought a couple cases several years ago at the vineyard. Wish I would have bought more. The wine is a smooth drinking glass with all the right combinations of nose and taste. Went great with a cheese board and sliced pears normally paired with a crisp white. A truly happy glass. 👍 — 10 years ago
