Colson Canyon Vineyard Syrah 2005

Big, rich and ripe blue and black fruit aromas and flavors, great balance, usually Joey’s richest Syrah in every vintage, long, lingering finish, should easily last 5-10 additional years, yummy! — 5 months ago

Crazy thing I just realized when taking the bottle to my recycle bin is this was 15.6% ABV — there was no real heat, just immense ripe, rich heat?!?! Amazing!!

Keyneton Mount Edelstone Vineyard Shiraz 2018

Purchased from Marion Hotel and Cellars near Adelaide, we enjoyed this in American River on Kangaroo Island. This full-bodied Shiraz evolved beautifully over the evening, revealing layers of dark berries, pepper, tobacco, Australian bark and earth, and a hint of anise, with a spicy finish. Balanced and complex, it earned full bonus points for how much we enjoyed it. A great wine, albeit with a screw cap. — 8 months ago

La Sangre de Jonata Ballard Canyon Syrah 2015

Even better than the crazy-good 2007, the 2015 La Sangre de Jonata is sheer perfection in a glass and up with the finest Syrahs ever made in California! Checking in as a blend of 97% Syrah and 3% Viognier, aged in barrel, its saturated purple color is followed by out of this world aromatics black raspberries, smoked earth, graphite, game, violets and freshly crushed rock-like minerality. — 6 months ago

Sounds crazy, given the pricing, but underrated stuff.

Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

ちょっとお高いカリフォルニアのCS。うきうき税込4680円の2016年もの。うーん❤️、ボルドー信者には無理かも知れませんが、個人的にはかなりの高級感。香り、凝縮感、アフターすべて申し分ないです。

Mays Canyon Pinot Noir 2018

Drank with dinner on Christmas 2024. Decanted in morning and poured back into bottle, then back into decanter at dinner time. Wine was beautiful dark fruits, almost no appreciable tannins. Paired with duck breast with cherry sauce. A gorgeous combo. — 8 months ago

Combe Ballard Canyon Trousseau 2022

Light garnet color. Very interesting nose and palate of red fruits, rose petals, dried herbs, black tea, bergamot and sweet baking spices. Hint of eucalyptus on the long, complex and earthy finish. Smooth tannins. Lively, bright and very well balanced. Nice concentration for a light bodied wine. Excellent! — a year ago

1hr+ decant and could have used more. Dark red color. Interesting nose with metallic, medicinal tones that tingled my nose. Wine has massive strawberry and cassis; and is sweeter than I was expecting. Very concentrated. The tannins reduce with ample air and the spicy aspects dissipate with time as well making it more approachable. Medium finish. — 5 years ago

Flor Ballard Canyon Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2022

The Jonata “Flor” is a damn good reason to fall back in love with Sauvignon Blanc (wish a dash of Semillon). Fresh and crisp yet lush and silky- all at the same time. And it evolves. From the nose to every bit of the palate, the “Flor” is a masterpiece. — 6 months ago

Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay 2020

2020 vintage. A fave CA chard and producer. Medium-medium heavy body. Tasting slightly more tropical and advanced with less acidity than usual. Still absolutely delicious tho. Would like to retaste and reevaluate in 5-6 months tho. Based on 30 vintages of tasting this particular wine, betting it reconciles any tawdry, fleeting concerns that occupy my compromised palate and right quick. 01.22.25. — 7 months ago

Ballard Canyon Roussanne 2017

Pours like deep yellow extra virgin olive oil, smells like teriyaki glazed grilled pineapple and lemon sesame pound cake, butterscotch crystals, and coconut shavings.

Thick vein of acid keeps this freshy fresh (not at all sloppy).

Great QPR, and something different.

Jericho Canyon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2002

2002 vintage in January 2021. This is in a great place. Fully mature with big red fruit and balancing earth. Fruit is fully mature and developed some additional characteristics but still very hedonistic for a wine this age. At a peak/plateau with stuffing to keep going but why wait? Do it! — 5 years ago
