Surprisingly good VA rose wine! Great find at Arrow Wine. — 4 years ago
Solid Bordeaux blend, fresh — 6 years ago
Deep dense Ruby in color with a tinge of garnet at the rim. The 14% Merlot is hardly recognizable when I took a whiff, with the 85% Cabernet clearly dominating the nose, but in a sort of mellow, tantalizing kind of way. The outstanding scent was the strong scent of pencil shavings, indicating high minerality. After a couple hours, I picked up a scent of cured leather, damp earth and old leaves that are quite persistent. I think all that new oak is quite well integrated now. A sip of the Mouton '05 left a sense of a lush and silky black fruit texture. There was a hint of chocolate in the second layer. The tannin level was just right. The acidity has already started to mellow down. The aftertaste lasted three full minutes. This wine is now in the early stage of it's drinking window. Mouton '05 is powerful and fund to drink, yet a very complex and elegant wine. Worthy of above 95 scores. — 6 years ago
Beautiful wine. Garrique on the nose, tarry touches on the palate. Perhaps a bit early to drink. Still plenty of smooth tannins and lots of time to develop further. — 7 years ago
After a spirited tussle between myself and the Durand vs a dry and crumbly cork I was able to double decant this and segregate away the remnants of floating debris. I was immediately struck by the bouquet which was unmistakably borne from Cabernet Franc (and I believe this blend is less than 10%). It was a positive sign. The wine is completely intact and boasts ample fruit albeit waning acidity. Simple Concord grape, bruised black plum and sweet oak flavors are holding on 2 hours in. This has some time left, but not much. This is a testament to Opus One quality in the early days (I believe this was the 3rd or 4th vintage) and while I think the ‘87-‘97 era was their best, this is an profound example of an exemplary wine at age 37! — 7 years ago

We visited there in the early summer of 2015 and now we got to try the fruits of their labor in the vineyard we witnessed at that time. A bio-dynamic vineyard with horse and plow 😁. Their wines are fantastic. This wine was richer in fruit and more expressive than perhaps characteristic for the Pauillac region. But the layers of earth infused flavors and the most subtle hint of ‘barnyard’ made it a sensation. Topped off with a grippy finish keeping the flavors lingering in your throat. www.spokenwines.com. — 2 years ago

From grape dvine - from Virginia something different — 6 years ago
Winning wine. Thanks Conor! DBX rosè tasting. — 6 years ago
2016 tasted 1/2019. Rich golden yellow. Beautiful floral and honeyed yellow apple aromas. Full bodied with palate of ripe apple and a nice thread of acidity. Very pleasant. Virginia should be growing less Viognier and more petit manseng. — 7 years ago

Lots of red and dark berries, dusty earth and very fine tannins. Balanced with good acidity. With air very pure cherry gets center stage. Absolutely great bit feminine Rancia entering it's early drinking window. Worked the treat with grilled iberico. — 7 years ago
Beautiful. Early, fruit well integrated tannins. — 8 years ago
Layer and poised…longer than normal, high acid finish. Currently fresh crunchy red (raspberry, blackberries) energetically form a velvety liquor. Long term, 6-8 year will be super balanced. Strong enough to hold up to burgers on night one and pot roast and mashed potatoes on day two… This is clearly the best Eluvium that Ben has made. Markedly better than 17, this one should be stocked up on to drink one a year for the next 10 — 4 years ago
Notes of plum, blackberry, cedar, deepened on the palate with rich full polished structure and elegantly balanced tannins. Both dark and vibrant at once. — 5 years ago
Virginia wine! — 6 years ago
Dark rubi robe, almost no signs of aging, very delicate nose of dark fruits and blackcurrant, very light on its feet with really velvety tannins, fresh, medium to long length. A delight and much better than early tastings were telling. This is great now but really no rush. Better than most 2000s. Recommended !!!! — 7 years ago
From a vintage that generally drinks well at this early stage. This is showing everything its got even without much secondary development. — 7 years ago
Drank too early. Beautiful VA — 8 years ago
Pretty red fruits, subtle florals, multi-dimensional, quasi Burgundian elegance early out of the decanter, beautiful with food. And then, it transitions into a rather one dimensional wine, backwards and salty, with green meaty spice after an hour or two. — 8 years ago

Oh so nice with a perfectly made Bolognese. Not at all too early. — a year ago
