Keste pizza at home. Drove deep into the mouth of the beast (Manhattan) to get this. Reminded me of the film “Dawn of the Living Dead” when we drove through Meatpacking district.
We’ll get thru this, I’m sure of that. Pizza is 99 pts.
This bottle was an outlier, relative to what we normally experience from this producer. — 5 years ago

Unexpected and delightful - Pinot Noir from Southwest Virginia! From vineyards planted at 1800 feet (big diurnal range and early harvest), this silky wine sang with notes of loam and damp earth, maitake mushroom, cranberry, red cherry, raspberry compote, boysenberry, violet, lavender, black pepper, toast and wood smoke, with bracing acid and medium-plus tannins on a medium frame. A long, satisfying, and juicy finish. One to seek out that proves how careful site selection and winemaking skill can produce superb results from innovative grape/region combinations! — 6 years ago
Color of shades of purple, inky in the center and lighter at the rim. Nose of nice sugarplum, sweet oak, tobacco leaves, spice, and nice residual sweetness. Taste of similar notes with addition of berry and zesty note, also peppery, while sweetness lingers all the time. Aftertaste is medium, low tannins, and some more medicinal note. Overall she is a fully loaded beauty. Smooth but just a bit too sweet for me. My rating does reflect my slow fat reservation about sweetness. Crowds will generally be pleased. — 7 years ago
Hibiscus, strawberry, cherry, leather smell, cherry and leather and some green coffee with a little toffee, acid is fresh and amazingly balanced with a slight tannin at the end — 5 years ago
2001 Ridge Monte Bello. Date night at Jar. Amazing. Didn’t decant, let it open in the glass. Dark fruit on the front, plush velvety texture, mineral, smoke, ash on the finish. So smooth. LOVE. Do NOT decant! — 5 years ago
I’ve been holding off on drinking any of the 2012 vintage from Hirsch because the folks at the winery said this vintage that needed time in the bottle. @Bill Bender’s notes about the 2012 Hirsch Reserve encouraged me to open a bottle, and I’m glad I did. The wine was deep and broad with more earth, forest floor, mushroom, and loamy notes than I have come to expect from Hirsch wines. The structure has settled down and the more beguiling feminine aspects of the West Ridge are now showing themselves. This was fanatic with crispy roast duck at Gideon Ridge. On a side note, I’ll give a plug to that restaurant. IMHO, it’s the best restaurant in the high country, with great food, service and views. Just plan ahead because reservations are often 6-8 weeks out during the summer season. — 6 years ago
Lovely and dry, fruity, probably tastes more expensive than it probably is. Served at the Whitney. — 6 years ago
Smooth at first them tingly at the end. Berry notes. Good cabernet. — 7 years ago
Last bottle of this very good HHH cab. A bit more meaty and rustic on the nose than the last bottle that I can remember. Lightly candied fruits, round acidity, and polished tannins are coming together nicely. At its peak, but should stay here for another 4-5 years.

Napa merlot at its best. Notes of blackberry, smoked meat and a hint of eucalyptus rise from the glass. Dark and brooding in the glass. Earthy tones, dark chocolate, hoisin and black tea on the palate. Great wine in a tougher year shows the skill of the winemaker and quality of the vineyard. 11s aren’t blockbusters but great winemakers made balanced wines. — 5 years ago
This one comes from a certified sustainable farm, with blackberry and dried cranberry character, a bit sweet and fruity at the end which makes it perfect for drinking by itself, it won’t go wrong with a nice steak! — 6 years ago
Dinner at Saltys. Full bodied with a velvet smooth finish. Licorice and berry spice on the nose. — 6 years ago
Can’t beat this dark, delicious Zin for the price! It’s got a nice mouthfeel and at $8.99 from Costco, I could drink it every night! — 6 years ago
