Absolutely outstanding performance by the 2011 Opus One. Dense and concentrated with a mesmerising complexity, a fresh and vibrant core that keeps the wine very much alive with a penetrating sensation through an everlasting finish. The nose shows an multidimensional complexity, ranging from cassis, blackberries, lavender, through cedar, pencil shavings, coffee, cocoa powder before finishing with a gravelly sensation. The palate is marked by its high, yet powdery tannins with a good acidity with an athletic stamina that holds the complex profile a length that lasts for minutes. Drinks well right now but with plenty of life ahead. — 6 years ago
HIGH QUALITY wine that drinks very expensive and has an amazing fruity nose but finishes dry and velvety like a Bordeaux with blackberries and currants. A little “alcoholy” but overall an amazing bottle. Worth a 9.0 from total wine for $14 but more like an 8.8 for $19 from Publix aka ripoff central! — 7 years ago
1978 drinks almost like a sherry. — 8 years ago

It’s a very good wine and it drinks very well right now. For me though this is not quite as good as some of the 95s in professional reviews might have suggested. — 6 years ago
This is just ridiculous. Act 7. Tastes of deep figs/plums up front as if grandma just baked a pie in your mouth. Finished smooth with a tiny bit of spice and more jams that make you want to cry. More of this please. — 6 years ago
An early evening HH at home with a fabulous Bordeaux wine. Color is a dark brown especially on the edges Red fruit and dark plum with a subtle barnyard lingering on the nose. Tastes of black fruit, currant and leather with earthy and smoky flavors and a sweet finish; tannins are mild and drinks smoothly. — 7 years ago
Needs a decanter, but drinks very well with a full body taste. Excellent with a strong main meal. — 8 years ago
Val drinks often. Fun label and well rounded, very drinkable mixed well with our holiday, game playing atmosphere. Others were drinking single malt. — 8 years ago

WNH virtual Insignia Tasting. Vintages featured were ‘95, ‘96, ‘00, ‘01, ‘02, ‘09, ‘13 and ‘14.
This was the Wine Spectator wine of the year and received a 100 point score from Wine Advocate (for those interested in accolades and scores).
Knowing the pedigree here, I knew to expect some fireworks and tried to prepare accordingly. I gave this 24hrs upright after pulling from the cellar, and then decanted about 90mins, before consuming from the decanter over the course of the evening. The cork came out perfectly via the Durand and had absolutely zero seepage up the cork. My glass of choice was the new Glasvin Expression. Really like their glasses.
My first sip after opening had me looking at my wife saying “this is 18yrs old and is insanely youthful”. When hearing from my friends about their mid/late ‘90s, and for the ‘01, those offerings had basically zero merlot. The ‘00 had a similar amount to this (14%), and I think that component really elevated this to a more “elegant” style. The oak here comes across as a mix of French and American (though it’s all French)...the oak has such a distinct sweet note to it that I associate with American oak on Cali wines, yet isn’t full on coconut. Aromatically, it’s a beautiful display of cherry tobacco, black cherry cordial, violets, and elevated heady notes of black cherry pie. On the palate, there is creme de cassis, espresso, cocoa powder and mellowed red fruit before a finish that has surprisingly grippy tannin. This drinks like a bigger style left bank Bordeaux with how wonderfully integrated it is. Zero chance I’d call this 18yr old Napa cab if tasting blind. This easily has 5+yrs in this drinking window, and another 5-10 in the next evolution journey before really starting to slide. If opening now, decant 1-2hrs. One of the best expressions of aged Napa cab I’ve had this year. — 5 years ago

Blend of 78% Cab Sauv, 12% Merlot, 7% Cab Franc, 2% Petit Verdot & 1% Malbec, deep Ruby red, concentrated youthful aromas of ripe black fruit, subtle nutty spice & creamy chocolate. Aged 24 months, 85% new & 15% 1-year used American oak. On the palate fresh fruit flavors of sweet plum, black cherry & dried blackberries, with bits of oak & cacao trying to peek through. Tannins are present, but just a tad persistent, reflecting its youth. Long & elegant finish with vanilla & slight mineral tang. Drinks well now, continue to develop over the next 15-20 years, why wait it’s perfect now! Outstanding! Tasting Sample! — 6 years ago
Earthy nose, silky on the palate, cigarette ash into firm balanced tannins on the finish. Drinks like it had many years of age-ability — 8 years ago
This drinks bold, can be paired with food or without. So damn good. Another bottle please. — 8 years ago
