Got a great deal on 6 pack of these two Bordeaux greats. Both got scores of 99, but the range of scores was pretty wide for both as well. I know I have to lay them down for 10 years+ but I wanted to try both for a baseline.
The Palmer is showing a lot more than the Ducru. It’s very enjoyable now! Nose is fantastic if a touch muted but still get nice cedar, black cherry, hint of floral, and something herbal. The palate is slate, cherry, blackberry, and currant. Not muted or closed in the least, but the slate thing overlays the fruit. Does that make sense? Help me describe that.
All in all I love this wine. Can’t hardly wait for 10 years from now. Guessing I won’t! — 3 years ago
Well, I never thought I would go from drinking a ranch water and a glass of White Zinfandel to a monumental vintage 1st growth Bordeaux. 🤷🏻♂️
When my 93 year old grandfather with dementia brings Chateau Margaux over for taco salad night, you just gotta do it....
Chills went down my spine as the scent of this wine hit me while I was pouring it in the decanter. Forest floor, wet leather, muddy earth, dried plums, and black cherries create a harmonious perfumed nose.
On the palate there was this truly amazing finesse and lightness that just stunned me. Black fruit, kirsch, light cocoa and leather hit you head on. After the fine grained tannins hit, there was this ever evolving finish that lasted for minutes. There was a slight minerality on the finish that was also extremely pleasing. Velvety, simply luxurious.
What an experience. Must say the pairing of the night was a little piece of candied ginger and a glass of this.... spectacular.
Great wine, even better company. What wine is all about. — 5 years ago
An absolutely stunning lunch from @joe leatherwood today. 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 5 reds and 1 dessert wine. All served blind.
What a total treat. My second glass of this was very different from the first glass. At first, I was getting a lot of honeyed tropical fruits with a good bit of yeast, but then it was more bright, and had caramelized Granny Smith apple notes and classic chalky limestone. This is right down the middle in terms of reductive vs oxidative. I wish I could have enjoyed this all on its own to give it the attention it deserved. I guessed this was ‘06 Le Mesnil. — 6 years ago

Great cork. A bit of a let down after the Fonsalette. — 9 months ago
This has been on my bucket list for a while, and we just got a few bottles in my area. I went in to this with high expectations and it totally delivered. One of the most complex wines I’ve had - there is just so much going on here. The nose on this just doesn’t stop evolving. Beautiful oxidation and so many distinct aromas that I’m not going to rattle them off. Texture, flavor, this has everything to offer for my palate. Need to hunt down an older bottle next time. For me, this lived up to the hype. — 4 years ago
It’s been open about 3 days and airing about 4 hours in the bottle. The nose is musky barnyard with wet oak, damp forest floor, wet leather and dark red fruit. There’s still some chalky tannins with acidity that rushes down the sides of your mouth and tongue. The red fruit carries forward, but more underripe with skins intact. It’s cleaner on the palate with a bit of damp cellar and dry earth, with notes of leather and red plum skin. The red plum and leather hang on into the finish. It’s a solid showing that I’d like to see where it develops over the next 3-5 years. — 6 years ago
OK, I’m in. This English sparkling wine thing is legit. Fresh, crisp and nicely balanced toasty biscuit character. — 6 years ago
Hollis and I loved this. Smooth, easy to drink. — 7 years ago
Outstanding cab/merlot blend. Sister of sexual chocolate. Excellent price point. Around $20. — 7 years ago
Just don’t open this yet folks. Took about 4 hours in a decanter to open up at all. Very classic dusty and graphite nose. Powerful red fruit and tannins. Good mid palate. Good acid. Very long finish. QPR not great. Needs min 10 years to calm down. — 9 months ago
2017 opened 2024. Lovely! Juniper, rosemary and blackberries on the nose. Succulent black fruit on the front, but the tannic structure doesn’t let this wine become insipid. Almost immediately I tasted the high notes of the distinctive Law estate calcaire. Its tannic structure is full and silky smooth and full. High and low notes play counterpoint on the mid palate and the finish. Low notes of dark chocolate. Mineral high notes—flint and limestone—that continue vibrating on the extremely-long finish.
I generally avoid 100% Syrah, because like pure Merlot it can tend to be one-dimensional and uninteresting without the addition of other grapes. But Intrepid breaks out of the Syrah mold. — 10 months ago

Waitrose. Delightful English white. Melon and peach, grassy and zesty freshness to it, slight acidity to cut through things but without lingering. — 5 years ago
Whole Foods, C Golden, apple, pear, nice acidity — 6 years ago

2020 vintage. Last tasted 7.7.24 (9.3) and 3.15.24 (9.2). Medium-heavy body. Previously hesitant and reticent tannins beginning to creep into the finish right off the bat. Starts off fairly fruity, then tapers that down a bit at the end. Harmonious and über-pleasant. PNP now, double park it for a ten-spot or investigate somewhere in between. Consider the invitation proffered. Haut-Médoc doesn't move the needle at work (wish it did) but always more than happy to crush this Bordeaux bestie off premise. Consistent catch-all producer with "that's all?!" pricing. 12.03.24. — 9 months ago
