Fresh, straight and bell-pepperish as hell. — 4 years ago
Every champagne lover should get to know Fabrice Gass! His tiny estate in Damery, Alexandre Filaine, was a great discovery for me this year. Age-old story of minuscule production, biodynamic farming, and upholding tradition. This older bottling of his NV was stunning and perhaps one of the best I've had recently.
2012 base, with some 2011 blended in as reserve. 2/3 Pino, the rest Chard, and a touch of Meunier. No dosage, no malo, and fermented in old Bollinger barrels - Fabrice's keepsake from his last gig.
Elegant, with laser focus but impressive body. On the nose, super chalky, floral, green apples, pears, and brioche. The palate's incredibly vinous. A complexity that ebbs and flows, with a length that matches. Quite rich and showing some oddly fresh grassy tones. Citrus pith and really mineral on the back notes. What a joy to sip on! — 6 years ago
On the nose; poached strawberries, cherries, bing cherries, cooked rhubarb, dry cranberries, faint spice, light vanilla, limestone and fresh red florals. The mouthfeel is lean to medium and very juicy. Tannins completely resolved. Strawberries, cherries, bing cherries, cooked rhubarb, dry cranberries, cola, steeped tea, faint spice, limestone minerals, loamy soils, faint spice, touch of vanilla, herbal notes, soft high acidity and lean, elegant, long, fruit finish. Even though this was likely a little better two years ago, it's good but certainly a little disappointing for Grand Cru Burgundy. History notes...the Louis Latour family first bought vines in the Cote de Beaune in 1731, with land in some of the top Burgundy vineyards. Louis Latour is currently run by the seventh Louis Latour, Louis-Fabrice Latour featured in the photo. They are a huge négociant with property holdings in Aloxe-Corton (their largest holdings) and Corton-Charlemagne. They also own parts of Corton Clos de la Vigne au Saint Grand Cru, Corton Bressandes Grand Cru, Corton Les Chaumes Grand Cru, Corton Les Pougets Grand Cru, Corton Les Perrières Grand Cru, Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru, Corton Les Grèves Grand Cru. Also, own parts of the Premiers Crus“Les Chaillots”, “Les Founières”, Chambertin, Romanée-Saint-Vivant and Chevalier-Montrachet “Les Demoiselles." They use French oak vats for short period of fermentation on nearly all their red wines. Then...they spend 12 months in French oak barrels. The red wines of Domaine Louis Latour are still vinified and aged at Corton Grancey featured in the photo. — 8 years ago

2 December 2017. Moore Brothers, Brooklyn, NY. — 7 years ago
The super limited production top wine of Filaine Champagne and winemaker Fabrice Gass. Only recently even making its way at all to the US. It’s incredibly fresh, pure and texturally precise with riveting energy and coiled tension. It’s floral, smoky and red fruited with a citrus inflicted acidity and mineral core. A beautifully made Champagne. Now to find more! — 3 years ago
An outstanding Macon. Very well-balanced with pear and apple notes and just enough acidity to drink it with fish and chicken. — 5 years ago

Drinking wonderfully. Mushrooms and earth balanced with red fruit. — 7 years ago
Todella hyvä. Ei mikään tylsä perusS, vaan oikein hapokas ja hedelmäinen. Vähän tyly loppu, mutta aivan loistava paketti kokonaisuudessaan. Alle 20e paikallisessa Prismassa. — 8 years ago
Smokey, dark cherry. Dark chocolate. Sweet fruit. This isn't some watery Bourgogne. The charred oak is a bit much for me at this stage in its evolution. Not sure if this will get better or fade. — 8 years ago
