Strikes that balance of being extremely giving, yet light bodied. This one also has some wild aromatics without ever getting too "Gamay-ey", if that makes sense... — 9 years ago

Château Le Crock

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

From a 0,375l.
Still performing really well. Dark, concentrated, clay-ey blackberry, plush and low-acidic mouthfeel.
Drink now or in the next 5 years.

Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 1997

Pancakes and Sauternes.
Two guilty pleasures.
Voluptuous nose on opening, wafting honey, beeswax, glue, apricotpreserve, molasses and that savoury twang I often pick up in mature Sauternes (something shrimpy/bacon-ey). Rounded and sweet in the mid-palate, getting more dry towards the finish which is starting to show a faint metallic note now, suggesting that this wine should be drunk earlier rather than later.
A very very fine example of aged Sauternes, though.

A bit tired and tomato-ey but likely not the wine's fault. Works very well with tomato based pizza. Watch the storage or provenance #plcb — 9 years ago

Domaine du Carrou (Dominique Roger)

Sancerre Rosé Pinot Noir 2011

I don’t usually go for rose, but this impressed - nectarin-ey with saline and a nice zip. Interesting to have a bottle like this with a bit of age on it. Still fresh even with an alarmingly soft cork. — 7 years ago

Domaine du Vissoux / Pierre-Marie Chermette

Les Garants Fleurie Gamay 2014

A few years ago bought several bottles thinking I could medium age a few while I dipped in and out of tasting them. Now only one bottle left. Oops. I like best how its drinking now, has a nice acidic snap, had a broad, ungainly tomato-ey tone which now feels fresh & terroir specific, ie, red fruits incl wild raspberries & strawberries. Has the Beaujo straightforwardness I cherish. Weygandt imp. — 7 years ago

Santa's Little Helper Imperial Stout Malt

It started "raining" in Los Angeles tonight.
It's cold...Santa's Little Helper to the rescue.
Malty, cocoa-ey, dark and smooth.
This is why Russian Imperial Stouts are on the menu.

Ever developing to the last. I enjoyed it very much, especially after the balsamic-ey VA aromatics/flavors dissipated a bit. It was a treat. I suspect I won't be fortunate enough to come across this vintage again. Thanks for sharing, Geoff:) — 9 years ago
