Drinking beautifully with a Northern appellation feel to it, more Brune and schistous to me. Would love to know all the lieu dits that contribute and their proportion in the final blend. Its darken fruit profile, meaty/smokey and forest notes make the argument that it’s of northern origin. Its opening up for now there’s a rich stream of dark black fruits reminiscent of Black raspberry liquor, soaked plums, almost prune, and overripe black berry/cherry. There’s still freshness to the fruit however, nothing ox’d or decaying. Singed cedar, leather, ash, roasted meat and animal come next, followed by the garrigue and bacon fat. Threads of eastern spices and of course pepper. It elusive now, the aromas coming and going. Palate has some lovely richness and bones to accompany it well, never pushy, always with restraint and nerve. Reminds me of Barolo. Great “basic” cuvée for Rostaing this vintage. Day 2 this really got going, much more harmony and focus on the nose. Loads of bitter root and pastille notes developing among its dark content. Very delicious — 5 years ago
Just like a spectacular, old school Côte Rotie from the Côte Brune with pepper and minerals dominating the nose, then olive, pepper, and brambly fruit and the palate, if you want to experience what great Côte Rotie was like on release in the 1990s, this is where to look. — 6 years ago
Good. Alcohol not well integrated today and tannins a bit tough. Very aromatic. No shortage of fruit. Age will improve — 7 years ago
Reminds me of Côte brune more than campania though my ignorance is the greater reality. Acid is balanced by beautiful sage-pepper-wild black fruit. Dresser nails it again — 9 years ago

Color is fading from brick to orange, mature aromas of saddle leather, meat and some smoke, just a lovely older Cote Rotie, time to drink up. — 6 years ago
Founded over 160 years ago, Delas Frères was acquired by Champagne Deutz in 1977. 100% Syrah from a blend of grapes 70% Cote Brune & 30% Cote Blonde, aged in French oak (30% new), aromas of red berry fruits and complex spice. On the palate raspberry and plum flavors, savory with herb pepper spice. Fine tannins, nice mouthfeel, lingering ending with fruit and mineral on ending. — 6 years ago
Bière brune ambrée excellente. Goût fruité et boisé à la fois. Délicieux avec une carbonnade flamande — 8 years ago
Intense complex nose. The wine is at the end of its peak or even beyond it. Variety of tertiary aromas present: confiture, cellar, cooked vegetables, leather, balsamic. Dark fruits and spices. Expressive acidity. Handpicked Syrah from Ampius village. MLF and then 18 months aging in barriques. Côte Rôtie of Northen Rhône wines are finely structured. Terres Sombres wine is typical Côte Brune. Rich and ripe. Powerful and elegant. Rating 4,1/5; WineSpectator 93/100. — 9 years ago
— 5 years ago

Rare bottle, different from the 1990 Gentaz Côte Rôtie Côte Brune.... this wine is comprised of 2 lieux dits: La Landonne and La Viaillère. It does not contain any of Gentaz’s small parcel in Côte Brune that was adjacent to the subplot that is now known as La Turque. For this reason Côte Brune does not appear on the label of this particular bottling. — 6 years ago
One of the hottest restaurants in town, Saturday night, the week before Cara's birthday: all the makings of a delightful date night.
Rarely is chicken king but at Le Coq Rico that's very much the case. Antoine Westermann apparently spent years trying to find the perfect chicken before he was comfortable opening the New York outpost of his famed Parisian poultry eatery. The Brune Landaise is indeed a beautiful bird, heavy on the white meat yet utterly succulent and flavorful. Anyone eating at Le Coq Rico should also try the extraordinary slow cooked eggs to start and end with I'ile Flottante, a perfectly spherical soft meringue floating in a sea of rich crème anglaise. Indulgent and divine.
I brought a 1994 L'Eglise Clinet, which I picked up a few years ago. Apparently this wine is considered a standout in an otherwise difficult vintage. Supple and right at its peak, this medium bodied Bordeaux has hints of cherry and tar that evolves beautifully on the palate. (Corkage is $50 per 750ml, max two per table.) — 8 years ago
If what you drink on new year's eve defines your year, then for me 2017 will be rich and smooth. — 9 years ago
J'adore — 9 years ago
