The perfect marriage with Brie. The minerality coupled with notes of young strawberries and wet slate compliment the salty buttery goodness of a soft Brie. Has a lingering tart finish of red cherries. The best gamay/Beaujolais I've had. — 8 years ago
Burnt hair on nose at first. Funky, wet hay, wet wool, concord grape. Crushed apple and quince on palate. Juicy, high acid, long finish. Spectacular. With Saybruh in LA!!! — 9 years ago
Charming minerality, sort of like sucking on a honeydew melon and then licking a wet river stone. Petrol and peach nose, very drinkable. — 9 years ago
10 years before the summer of love. Stewed Strawberry, cherry skins, cranberry, white pepper, bark, wet slate, breakfast muffin, parsley, fennel seed, #margaux #bordeauxwines #bordeaux #wineporn #oldworldwine #oldwine — 10 years ago
Man I love this wine! Smells of petrol, wet limestone and lemon curd. Delicious! — 12 years ago
Since this is the last Friday of the year, my Cabernet fix is going to be a little different this time.
Dark ruby in color with a short brick /orange rim.
Earthy nose of blueberries, blackberries, black currants, earth, wood, light vanilla, tobacco, peppercorn, espresso, forest floor, leather, pencil lead, light barnyard, licorice, light vanilla, bell pepper and vegetables.
Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity and nice legs.
Dry and earthy on the palate with blueberries, cherries, oak, licorice, cloves, earth, wet leaves, vegetables, herbs, beef jerky, spices, dark coffee, pencil lead, green pepper, black tea and peppercorn.
Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.
What a wonderful Cabernet based red from Saint Estephe. Nicely balanced and very complex with a great mouthfeel. Earthy and still young, but drinking very nicely now.
Not a great vintage, but so enjoyable by itself or with food. The nose is so complex, that it's so nice just to sniff on.
Needs 3 hours to open up properly and show some tannins.
I paired it with cheeses and light appetizers.

This is the most picturesque Chateau in Bordeaux. Oh...and they make a pretty amazing Bordeaux. It's a good first look at the 03 vintage from my five bottle set. There are steak wines and then there are steak wines. This was a 10 pair with the T-bone...Heaven. The tannins have softened but have many years ahead to get to that perfect place. The mouthfeel is full, round, creamy and elegant. The fruits have a not too sweet liqueur style. They are; blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, plum, sweet tobacco leaf, anise, used leather, black tea, used coffee grounds, rich wet black turned earth, stones, dry red florals, spice; clove, nutmeg, baking spices; very light vanilla, touch of caramel, dark chocolate and acidity that pours over the palate. There is the start of harmony in the structure, length, balance and tension. The finish lasts a full two-minutes and it crushed with the T-bone. Next bottle in 5-7 years. For the legions of you on Delectable crushing only young Napa Cabernet, you have no idea what you're missing in aged Bordeaux...forget about it...even vs. well aged Napa Cabernet. Respect!!! 3-4 hour decant and it needed every second of it. — 8 years ago
Double trouble. Short decant, tight and reluctant first 30 minutes with not much depth, then opened beautifully and put on weight and complexity. A front load of cassis, then bruised plum and warm wet earth. Suggest 3 hour decant to let it strut. — 9 years ago
I have tasted many 1961 over the years, this continues to be one of my favorite wines...The strange thing is that this bottle with its high necklinewas the youngest 1961 that I had ever tried, wine had an great Providence - One owner and one incredible cellar.
1961 was a magical year on the right bank; now over 50 years of age it has lost some weight but picked up elegance on the nose - wet clay, graphite/lead pencil, umami/truffle - nose candy for sure. — 10 years ago
A softened ruby color. Beautiful balance, everything in harmony. Wet earth, raspberry, cinnamon, a whiff of truffle, intoxicating nose. So much ripe, fresh red fruit on the palate. Such soft tannins, damson plum, a mineral streak running through. Drinking a 15 year old wine for 15th anniversary of diabetes. This is splendid in the moment — 8 years ago
Classical left bank nose. Earthy with oak. Still young... turning into wet stable — 8 years ago
Slightly austere with excellent structure. Nose exhibits blueberry, crushed wet stones and a hint of caramel. The first sip is all blueberry and tannin. But as it opens up you get more mellow cassis and leather. — 9 years ago
Let's start with classic Haut Brion elegance. So soft, beautiful and understated. Black plum, black raspberries, dark cherries, cooked strawberries, even a touch of cooked rhubarb, suede leather, cedar, spice box, dried red roses, elegant wet black earth and a finish one never forgets. Perfect pair with the lamb chops. Out of 375ml. — 9 years ago
On the fuller side of medium body, the black fruits are showing well and they are perfectly shrouded in a cloak of wet rock and lean oak treatment. A softy all the way through but it's elegance is what makes this wine a masterpiece. Delicate yet full of flavor and terroir. Enjoy! — 10 years ago
Wet stone, green apple and melon. Zippy and mineral. I want more. — 10 years ago
Jordan Wardlaw
Noticeably more oxidized than the 2010 with smoke accents and hints of wet concrete. Feels tighter and more acid driven despite the significantly higher ph. More perfumed and juicier on the palate than most of the others. Vintage variations at Musar are enormous, as always. — 7 years ago
