Extremely interesting. Hints of jolly rancher in the nose...but that is only a vulgarity, not an insult! — 8 years ago
Heavy bottle stink on pop, then decant. Couldn't really touch this for about 2.5-3 hours until the nose collected itself. Well tanned leather, moist soil and ripe cherry notes eventually evident in the nose. Mineral cherry on the palate, the bottle was really starting to sing at about 4 hours, then it was gone. Really love the Cos d' in all vintages! — 8 years ago

Magnum 2001 Dominus Estate. D fam dinner at Tap. Spectacular and loved by all. The super green veg notes had mellowed and rounded out. Nice balance of earth, soil, and dark, sour fruit, tho to a much smaller degree. Such a great treat. — 9 years ago

It’s a little birthday pre-celebration for the birthday girl before we head north tomorrow for a big Bordeaux tasting and dinner to celebrate.
That’s her enjoying the afternoon sun in the D&S Lounge on her day off. Happy Birthday Sofia! Love you.
As for the Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve, it never disappoints.
The palate shows beautiful mousse, green & golden apple, pineapple juice, some pear, a touch of cider, lemon & lime zest, kiwi, green melon, notes of caramel, baguette crust, mixed greens, saline, sea fossils & spray, grainy, grey volcanic minerals, low intensity white spice, thick, powdery chalkiness, spring flowers, jasmine, soft, crisp acidity and a well balanced & polished finish.

1996 Leroy Romanee St. Vivant. Lunch at Tap w A&S and D&T W. Drank this after the ‘90 Latricieres- Chambertin. Didn’t decant either. This wine was spectacular. Total winner. — 8 years ago
Vilmart is one of my favorite producers and this bottle, a favorite memory, from a profoundly enjoyable luncheon at Hôtel Restaurant Les Avisés, owned by Anselme Selosse and his wife. Everything about that day was perfect, including the wine. The 2010 Cuvée Grand Cellier d' Or Brut is a sunbeam in a glass, with bubbles like seed pearls embroidered on golden-threaded brocade. Transporting aromas of lemon pudding, dewy pear, white flowers, honeycomb and dried mint lead into a wine that is as poised as it is precise. It crescendos on a spicy note that gradually subsides to a clean, lilting finish. — 9 years ago

1985 Sassicaia. Dinner J&D B at Best. Did not decant. Drank before the ‘82 Haut Brion. Excellent. John says it is the best Sassicaia he’s had. Tons of fruit- dark berries. Really rich and round and plush. — 7 years ago

Robe noire

1999 Screaming Eagle. Wolf w J&L B and J&J D. Such a treat. Drank this first of the reds and it was spectacular. Massive and still young, as to be expected, but still so balanced and with that wonderful mouth-coating velvety texture. Huge oak, vanilla, spice, and some acidity as well. Really complex and hard to distinguish all the different things going on. We all really, really enjoyed this wine and it was drinking wonderfully despite its youth. Thumbs up. — 9 years ago

Time for dessert!!!
The nose shows; white peach, apricots, dry pineapple, Bosc pear, dry tropical melons, marmalade, honey, orange citrus and blossoms, nuts, toffee, banana peel, burnt caramel, brown raw sugar, baguette crust, soft limestone minerals and floral spring flowers.
The body is thick, gluey and rich and has lots of residual sugar. White peach, apricots, dry pineapple, Bosc pear, dry tropical melons, marmalade, honey, orange citrus and blossoms, nuts, toffee, banana peel, burnt caramel, brown raw sugar, baguette crust, soft limestone minerals and spring flowers. The acidity is beautiful, thick and round. The finish is well balanced and elegant with polish on the finish for days.
