Beautiful wine. This was direct from the Chateau and it showed. Among the most elegant and poised Bordeaux I’ve had, reminded me of Clos Rougeard, fair bit of acidity and lift. Very aromatic. 12% alcohol. They don’t (can’t) make it like this any more. Excellent. 1989 Vintage — 7 years ago

Excellent Cabernet Franc from Les Poyeux in Saumur-Champigny Champigny in the heart of the Loire. This is the real deal and in the mold of the style like Sylvan Dittiere, Thierry Germain, and Joguet, maybe not quite as precise as Guiberteau or as structured and refined as Rougeard. Deeply red fruited nose and palate that show some pepper and cedar with a vein of minerality and a waft of lifted buttered brioche toast. A great look into Les Poyeux, the site made famous by Rougeard.

Wow. Amazing on day 2 (day 1 was dark red fruit and a lot of red bell pepper) with a nose that was like a raft of strawberry, raspberry and a bit of boysenberry with more subtle tones of bell pepper, tobacco and earth. No noticeable wood, ample acidity but not austere. Hits a sweet spot for Cab Franc. For history, quality, QPR - will take this over Rougeard any day. — 6 years ago

2014. Old vine Cabernet Franc growing directly out of solid limestone. It's taken me a while to wrap my brain around the greatness of Thierry Germain's wines. They are coiled springs unfolding in a slow trajectory towards pristine black raspberry fruit and scents of rain-washed earth. Dare I say finer examples of raw Saumur-Champigny terroir than Clos Rougeard. — 9 years ago
