I had El Guardado Chic Rosé Malbec Bodega La Guarda — 8 years ago
I was excited to dine at the (relatively) new Union Square Cafe. The previous venue closed some time ago and caused a bit of a ripple throughout the New York restaurant scene: Rising rents wreck regarded restaurant. I prefer the look of the new venue. High ceilings, homely yet chic furnishings, beautiful lighting and a cool mezzanine level. It looks the part. The staff could not be friendlier or more helpful. And the food is every bit as good (and goodness me so filling) as it has always been.
The wine list is terrific. There are a pages of legendary wines but plenty of values to be found and the markup is very reasonable, particularly considering that tips are included.
Take the 2014 Produttori del Barbaresco. It is just superb. Classic Nebbiolo through and through. Midweight but with grip, more powerful than the translucent coloring would imply. Delicious now but would last.
It was $90 on the list. Take off the typical 20% tip and you have $72 on any other list. I saw this in a store the other day for $40, so that's a less than 2x retail markup. Not bad and very fair.

Kate Moss... Boho-chic... Pale, lean, and sexy, with flowers in its hair. Decidedly not a juicy rose, so I can see why there are so many haters. I think the wine likes it that way... — 10 years ago
More oxidative than expected—pleasant surprise!!! Cheap & chic — 6 years ago
Wow! $8.99 at total wine and such a bargain!! Deep jammy nose with a wonderful aftertaste. It’s got hints of graphite, dried cherries and the feeling of a nice autumn afternoon. Yum. GO buy some of this wine. — 8 years ago
I've had a few wonderful meals at Leuca in Williamsburg recently because the in-laws spent a few weeks staying at the (very chic) hotel that houses the restaurant.
We had intended to go to a nearby French restaurant but our reservation was messed up so we retreated to reliable Leuca. I brought along this Pommard (thinking about the anticipated cuisine) and it was delicious. Bright cherries underpinned by an earthiness and a lavender lift. It has considerable depth and at eight years old is drinking beautifully right now. — 8 years ago

Tastes like a Christmas wine. Chic. — 10 years ago
Drank half last night. Tonight, this was a nice pair with blackened tuna. Big blackfruit with a little residual sugar cut the Cajun spices just right for me. My beautiful wife and her equally chic mother are having Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio with salmon. I really dislike salmon.

Excellent, was worth waiting! biscuit, cream, gingerbread on the mouth, very chic and refined bubbles ! — 7 years ago
Color of ripe plum with pronounced legs on the glass. Deep fruity nose with tanned leather over loamy earth tones. Lots of fruit on the palate develops a rich, full body. But deeply dry like a French wine should be. Tannin finish with berries and leather on the lips. Best of Bordeaux with some Napa thrown in. Tres chic, dude! A wine to enjoy now while you can. — 8 years ago

I always struggle with rose champagnes. Somehow they don't convince me and almost never justify the price tag. But there are a few which I am satisfied with.
Cuvee Elisabeth is definitely in my top list. Its first vintage is 1988 and was created as a counterpart to another prestige cuvee of the house Nicolas François.
This cuvee is about the elegance and finesse rather than the power. Made of equal parts of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir it is blended with less than 10% of red wine from old vines in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ.
Chic rose color with copper hue. Reductive style with a cooler 2007 vintage showing through. Apricot jam, candied citrus, sugar powdered red berries. Delicate bitter cool and dry finish. Disg. in Feb 2019 after spending impressive 11 years on lees. The dosage of 6 g/l is enough to reach the perfect balance.
