Annual Boys Trip away - this time to Cairns. My contribution to the BYO Dinner at an Indian Restaurant. No formal notes but these are so long living even at 13 years, and first of 6, this is considered as young. Plums and herbs. One of my favourite Penfolds Cuvées because of its lack of new oak - 90% fruit driven. Excellent with a long future.

Nose of grapey and slightly sour fruits of; blackberries, blueberries, black plum, black raspberries, warm spices and dark decayed red & dark florals. M+ tannins, big & meaty, grapey, blueberries, black raspberries, black plum, dark cherries, mint, eucalyptus, tarry notes, black licorice, red fruits of; strawberries, cherries, raspberries come on late, black cherry cola & tannins soften as the finish progresses. The fruits in the finish are riper, a touch of tar, anise and a rounder lusher mouthfeel. Nice acid in all there wines but it is legal to acidify. Although, they did not in this wine. Photos of the other side of their tasting bar and an huge old barrel dedicated to Helen Keller. Although, we all know she was blind, she came very close to knowing how many liters were in this barrel by touch.

Steve said to sit on this for 20 years, will do. Opened an '08 750ml of this and is heavy deep and rich of blackberries and hints of cinnamon. Well worth the wait for this one

Nov 7th, 2012Silky and plush. It’s excellently approachable with a youthful vitality and concentration. And almost sweet core of plum, liquorice and dark fruit wrapped with extra layers that haven’t yet begun to unfurl. Very soft and supple tannin structure. Seems like a baby; lovely to enjoy now but still very early in its life.
