Wet start to the 2013 vintage turned to warm dry summer into fall. The old vines has similar arc with a splash of big red juice that progressively dessicate a to a cran-cherry fruit -leather roll ups . — 10 years ago
Strawberry minerals off dry refreshing springtime dreamy rose pairing well with the salinity of seared scallops. Bottled a few months ago and super delicious. — 4 years ago
Nose has cranberry, blackberry, over-ripe raspberry, prune, black licorice and muddy garden soil, ripe plum and melted butter.
Palate has dried blackberry, raspberry, dried cranberry, black licorice, medium acidity with a long finish; Great wine.
1500ml means your care. ❤️ Decanted 5H, much more time appreciated.
Paired to Asian-style food, tonight with Taiwanese Five Spice Pork (Lu Rou Fan | 卤肉饭) over Jasmin rice with lightly fried eggs from our private egg factory in the backyard. Locally raised NY pork (Highland Farm, Old Chatham, NY). — 4 years ago
Chatham Christmas 2020 — 4 years ago
Nose has dried grape vines, (old) neutral oak barrel, dried black cherry, dried garden soil, (cooled) grilled tomato, graphite mechanical pencil refills, old coffee grounds and very dry compost/soil.
Palate has dried cherries resurrected in bacon fat, several day old sliced fresh cherries, blend of moist/dry soil with medium tannins. Cork pulled for a slow ox. for ~6h, then decanted ~1h. Picking up some since decanting, but still not moving the needle much. Likely great 5+ years ago, acceptable this evening.
Paired to a local pig, grilled pork chops from our favorite just over the border farmer (Highland Farm, Old Chatham, NY). Courtney only raises about six pigs every year, I'm overjoyed when we land some for our freezer, delicious factor 2x over just about anything else in the region.
(Pork was 93 points, if I had been more observant on internal temps would have been 95 points, still grilled to a wonderful medium.) — 5 years ago
I find this wine very impressive. Tart cherry and intense minerality. Improves with food. Two things I don't see often: Hudson valley wine, baco noir- but it works here! — 9 years ago
Nose has charred cherry, dried blackberry, dehydrated cranberry, old wet leather, dried blueberries, saturated cedar plank and crushed fresh blueberries.
Palate has ripe/dried blueberries, light creamy oak, dark chocolate, dried strawberry, strawberry jam, rioevblackberry, violets and wet garden soil.
Finish is forever, tannins are velvet Elvis! I can't believe I'm commiting this to actual notes, but this might be the best Biale bottle we've ever had, and it's hard to top the equal vintage from the Monte Rosso vineyard. MR is dear to my heart from most producers, but this is epic. At peak enjoyment at only 11yo! Decanted 5H.
Paired to mesquite smoked pork chops from a 1/2 pig purchase from our dear farmer friend Courtney at Highland Farm (Old Chatham, NY). Please support your local resources. — 4 years ago
Nose has mashed blueberry, sliced black cherry, wet soil, wet leather, black currant leaves, roses, syrup of dark fruits and damp peppercorns.
Palate has violets, blueberry/black currant juice, fresh black cherry, (light) moist spice cake and ripe elderberry. Persistent tannins prove this wine is still youthful, with a long/rich finish and juicy fruits on display. In proper storage this can easily be enjoyed, 2025-30+.
Cork pulled for a slow oxidation of 5H then decanted 4H.
We're big advocates of Burgundy wines paired to Asian-style food, tonight again with Taiwanese Five Spice Pork (Lu Rou Fan | 卤肉饭) over Jasmin rice with lightly fried eggs from our private egg factory in the backyard, plus locally raised NY pork (Highland Farm, Old Chatham, NY). The wine displayed its youthful tannins alone, but great acidity with the meal pairing. Happy happy! — 4 years ago
Nose has Gardenia, lime peel, distant white pepper, cut flower stems and honeydew melon.
Palate has ripe-spiced pear, tangerine peel and candle wax; consistent with the 2017 version.
Time still required, revisit 2022-24. Just received this bottle earlier this week!
A solid pairing tonight with Taiwanese Five-Spice Pork; soy sauce, ground pork (Highland Farm, Old Chatham, NY), shallots, garlic, sherry, brown sugar, five-spice powder, rice vinegar over steamed (jasmin) rice.
24 Hour Update: Nose is wickedly floral, palate is the metaphorical expression of eating a Gardenia, wonderful. Score bump 9.0>9.1. — 5 years ago
Spicy pepper notes, great with marinara sauces. — 8 years ago
Grown on an Absolutely lovely spot just downstream of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge.
Melon rind, green apple flesh, lemon pith essence. Snappy fresh and almost too easy to like for a Chardonnay-sayer like someone I know... — 10 years ago
