Delicious Gamay from a rad 26yr old french woman! Beautifully balanced, weight, aged flavours. More interesting than most of the pinots I've had this summer, assuming no carbonic maceration. Great single vineyard small yield Gamay!! — 8 years ago
Creamy, light-bodied but nice peppery kick at the end. Rad. — 8 years ago

Rad Spätburgunder from the Pfalz; Koehler-Ruprecht never steers me wrong. Bracing and a bit rustic yet still elegant. Pours a medium (-) ruby garnet hue. Benefits from a tiny bit of air before serving but not like, necessary to decant it either. Wild raspberries and strawberries, blood orange peel, fennel seed, woodsy spice and birch bark, mushroomy, forest floor earthiness, and some floral rosehip character on the nose. The palate has more bracing, alpine red berry fruit, woodsy spice, rose floral character, and forest floor, supported by lively, medium (+) to high acid, and medium (-) tannin. Light to medium (-) body. Solid stuff. In a nice place right now, maybe would peak in a couple years but no compelling reason to hold on to it much either. — 7 years ago

This is a rad Russian River Valley chardonnay! I was going to pick up some nice Napa chardonnay as a little commemoration to the 40th anniversary of the Judgement of Paris today, but, as the case tends to be for Napa, everything I found was either not going to be worth the money, or was out of the budget I was comfortable spending at the moment. So I decided to pick up an interesting-looking California chardonnay that I had never had before to try instead, and I'm glad I landed on this one! This has great balance, and shows a deft, restrained hand in the winemaking process; no buttery vanilla bombs here! Layered with ripe yellow apple, fresh pineapple, a bit of toasted coconut and nutmeg spice, a bit of Parmigiano cheese rind, vibrant honeysuckle and an almost smoky crushed gravel minerality. Has a nice freshness with focused acid and decent length, with a nice texture that's fuller and silky, but not *heavy* or too rich, which is a good thing for me when it comes to chardonnay. Has that nice "simultaneous breadth and freshness" x-factor that I've really c@me to appreciate in balanced California chardonnays as of late. Alcohol sitting at a nice place, it's not hot at all. Overall, really stellar effort and great QPR. @Ryan Zepaltas this is a job well done; seriously great juice. Long live great American wine! — 8 years ago

Money. Killer. Rad. Channeling my inner @Philip Carpenter who also totally loves these wines. Jaffurs is the poster child of consistency in winemaking, and Verna's is always a powerful tapestry. Super opaque, almost black purple, very ripe/rich black &blue fruits, some lavender, and roasted meats. Pedal to the metal, jump on board and enjoy the ride (now channeling my inner @Bill Bender!). — 7 years ago
A baby, will do my best to hold off on this for a while! Very attractive now, with black fruits, dried herbs, violets and vanilla. I think this was mostly cab franc which is rad. Certainly more broad shouldered than Loire or even right bank but awesome balance — 8 years ago
Whoa. This stuff is seriously the bee's knees. Small biodynamic producer from Slovenia. This is a wine of firsts for me; first Slovenian wine and first Blaufrankisch. This particular one has an almost gamey herbaceousness to it that I didn't expect based on what I've heard about Blaufrankisch, but it's certainly appreciated. This kinda reminds me of a more wild, rustic Chinon or Saumur-Champigny; definitely gives a lot of similar vibes to Loire Cab Franc in general for me, which is amazing because I love Loire CF with a raging passion. Kinda reminds me of a cross between Cab Franc and Frappato, maybe? I dunno, but it's rad. Scents of cracked black pepper, dill, green bell pepper, fresh cranberry, dried cherry, dried rose and violet, a tiny bit of wood smoke, and wet crushed gravel are translated quite congruently on the palate, carried by nice pleasant, moderate (+) acidity and supported by moderate, supple tannin. This stuff is like, ridiculously complex for it's $17 price tag at my local shop, I need to snag all of this up next time I go to the store. — 8 years ago
