A wine that with age, can always be argued as to whether or not it’s showing correctly. At first it seemed advanced, and it may have been, but after a short time in the decanter it gains volume, energy and focus, becoming much more enjoyable. A great match for the menu too.

Citrus and fading oak on the nose. In the mouth it reminded me of sushi as this bottle was all about texture. Sat in your mouth but then started to build like a firecracker with a long fuse. Slowly citrus flavors and nut flavors are joined by apple skins and sets up camp on your tongue. Squats there but never explodes .

Wine highlights from a long and fabulous lunch at TFL yesterday. Needed a little more time to open up, but we were thirsty and drank it too fast.

A really beautiful wine, and like all great wines it is seamless and coherent from start to finish, somehow paradoxically melding a dichotomy of acidity and opulence into one logical whole. Aubert deVellaine described this phenomenon as "natural opulence rather than contrived opulence." There is some viticulture and winemaking involved, but it is definitely primarily a terroir thing. These are the wines that somehow rise above the fray, and remind even a cynical winemaker of the mystery.
