Falling for all the first hints of autumn. Tonight, it’s roasted Red Kuri squash and Chassagne-Montrachet. This wine is in a great place, striking its balance between fresh, vibrant acid structure on the palette and seductive toasted hazelnuts, toasted sesame, and red apple spice driving the nose. Marzipan / almond skin, oxidized apples, pastry dough, and green carrot tops are amongst some of the deeper pleasures of the nose of this wine. Delicious!
Perfectly paired with Gillian Welch & Lucinda Williams in the speakers. — 7 years ago
Biscuits on the nose. Grapefruit and lemon extract. Sunflower husks, grilled carrot, cornflower, lemon bread, and a folding of butterscotch pudding over diatomaceous earth, lime leaf and chalk. Hard soda bread crust with exquisite lemon pulp and pith interplay. White pepper, iron shavings, salt and lime. Intensely balanced and intricate in its nuances. #Haton #Champagne #blancdeblancs #bubbles — 7 years ago

Short’s Huma Lupalicious IPA. Pergola lacing. Warm oranges, carrot cake, white cherries, spaghetti squash, pineapple upside down cake, baklava, pencil shavings and pound cake waft from this bakery of delights. Rich, creamy and lemon-marshmallowy in scope, sporting banana pudding and lemon pith, lime and trailing bitterness of green onions and chewed pencil. Final note is zests of every citrus with an extra zest of grapefruit. From primordial pudding to a backbone of citric acid that makes even the lowest slug or troglodyte stand up. — 6 years ago
Full of minerals and terroir. A full bodied rounded tannin finish. Ideal for meat. This wine opened into luscious oily taste extravaganza. Loved every drop. Even wished with the anchovies and carrot cake. The Barn fur second bday dinner. 2015 vintage. 2018 September. — 7 years ago
Nose of smoked Gouda, fresh cilantro, and pressed carrot juice. The palate introduces baked blueberry and tart blackberry. — 7 years ago
Needs a good breathe. After an hour of carafe starts showing orchard fruit blossom, savory honeycomb, wax paper, crunchy pear and pollen. Precise and lean attack. Long finish with wet steal, wet wool, and finishes nutty. Carrot juice and sweet potato on the early finish. Was really disappointed upon opening. Glad I gave it some time to open up. — 8 years ago
Black cherry, black pepper, plum, carrot, liquorice. Bigger bodied than its more famous next door neighbour CdP. Reminds me of much drier version of Australian Shiraz. — 8 years ago
Pretty much perfect with a roast carrot and blood orange salad with cumin crème fraîche and red onion. — 9 years ago
Glows gold with reflections of amber. This has completed the typical Musarian transformation from primary citrus and green apple to tertiary apple-balsamic, toasted scone, dried honey, browned butter, and carrot halwa. Phenomenal length with persistent acidity. Distractingly good! This is still just barely into adulthood and will intensify and become more complex over the next few decades. — 9 years ago
Medium garnet to orange in color. Pumpkin pie, pie crust, carrot zucchini cake, cranberry, nutmeg, cloves. Medium acidity, medium sugar. So yummy! — 9 years ago
Hedy’s main course was one of her very best. Charred Onion Crusted Beef Bavette, Carrot Puree. Onion Confit, Potato. I forgot to take a picture so I am using an older similar entree from one of her previous dinners.
The 09 vintage is clearly one of the best in my lifetime. It’s so beautiful and elegant even this young. I have six of these plus a 3 liter so it was good to be able to peek into its development. I double decanted it and poured back in the bottle and re-corked it around 3p. Served it around 8:30p.
It had evolved nicely for the steak. It was full bodied, lush, smooth and elegant. Dark currants, mocha, fresh cigar, soft leather, dry clay, round acidity and a beautiful finish. Paired nice with Hedy’s entree.
The 09 Lilian Ladouys was one of the top sleeper wines of the vintage.

Early test of a beer I will most certainly be aging! Barley Maw! Dip some carrot cake in Ethiopian coffee and you will be getting close on the nose. The entire bouquet is a caramelized, myrrh version of that in an oiled, leather bag; although there is a doughy life to it that evokes freshly washed hair, with whiffs of Madagascar vanilla. Heavy coffee oils, bitter chocolate, smoked leather, tar, burnt caramel, black mushroom, rattan, blackened marshmallow, allspice, graham spice and dark tobaccos finishing briny. A seaside stroll at night through foamy pools. Can't wait to see how she ages! — 9 years ago
Paired with a Francis Mallmann inspired grilled meal of smoky pan roasted potatoes, grilled carrot and red bell peppers, salmon with chives and butter. After standing over the grill for half an hour some of the nuance of this wine was lost on me... But on day two this had blossomed with one of the clearest expressions of cassis I think I've ever smelled in wine. Deeply colored and scented, with blueberry, menthol, eucalyptus, elegantly balanced and long. In a happy place to enjoy now and over 3-5. — 9 years ago
