This is the 2013 Sluice Box El Dorado southern Rhone white varietal blend with 50% skin fermented. Beautiful copper-orange-gold color and slightly cloudy. Nose has sweet fruit, melon, a bit of citrus zest, and something floral in the way of a tropical garden after rain instead of perfumy roses. Palate shows a bit of exuberantly youthful grapiness, white stone fruit, white pepper, and freshness. This wine is medium bodied, balanced, and very pleasantly shows plenty of fine tannins. Very nice and interesting Syrah from the Rhone. Aromatically not that intense, but this has great freshness and acidity, with medium tannins. More purity of restrained fruit than earth or funk. Quite nice with a ribeye at Prairie Whale in the Berkshires. — 9 years ago

Im a Lopez/Rio Alta (w dips into CVNE) guy, so this was unexplored territory into mid/high end Rioja. All seamless, plush mouthfeel, rich rich rich black cherries, w enough acidic undertow to keep it fresh & reaching for next glass. Had after food so would love to taste with-bet its transformed.
