The Boxer Shiraz

One of the faves for Shiraz. Big, bold, yet easy to drink. Punchy with black and red fruits, not to tannic. — 8 months ago

Fess Parker

The Big Easy Santa Barbara County Syrah Blend 2020

This is very nice. Velvety mouthfeel, a lot of fruit, berry jam, some herbs and pepper, not much tannin. I’d definitely buy again. This is a crowd pleaser bigger red. — 9 months ago

De Bortoli

Noble One Botrytis Sémillon 2020

Sweet. Stone fruits (apricot and peach). I would score it higher if it had a bit more acidity. Enjoyed with a pear tart. — 2 years ago

Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz 2007

Somm David T
9.4

On the nose, syrupy dark cassis, blueberries, black raspberry cola, pepper, spice & fresh violets. The palate is rich, full bodied, smooth, elegant & big....it well extracted! The flavors abound. Dark cassis, blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, blueberries, boysenberries, black licorice, dark chocolate, salted caramel, core of anise, tarry notes, thick medium spice, pepper, soft, leather, powdery slushy tannins, liquid violets, decayed dark florals, underbrush, bitty minerals, crushed rock powder & dark rich loamy soils. The acidity is like a waterfall over the palate. The long, elegant finish is rich, ripe fruits that really pop along with swirling spice-box. Photos of our April visit to MD...shots of the grounds & tasting room. This 07 still has 5-7 years ahead of it. — 8 years ago

There are so many things that go into people scoring a wine. Many of these were communed in different years. How was their bottle stored? What’s their palate wheelhouse? Maybe, they prefer CA or Rhone style Syrah. What’s their experience level judging wine? What did they eat or not eat with it? I could go on.

Their wines are sweeter than say Torbreck and need a longer decant, 1-2 hours. If people didn’t decent, they tasted a more syrupy wine with less complexity. This would also account for fluctuations in scores in addition with what I wrote above.

Belle Glos

Clark & Telephone Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

Smells like a Pinot, looks like a Cab Sauv, body and finish of a Zinfandel. Aromas of gingerbread with flavors of red berries and even cranberry. Lots of sweet spicy notes. Let this one open up as it is a BIG Pinot Noir. Almost like Christmas in a glass. Outstanding! — 8 years ago

Harlan Estate

Napa Valley Proprietary Red Blend 1997

Liquorice, graphite over black and dark blue fruit. Fresh and powerful. Big but at the same time lithe and restrained in delivering layers of secondary flavours - asian spice and dried earth. Phenomenal. — 8 months ago

Château Mouton Rothschild

1982 vintage. Color still fairly youthful. Meniscus not too wide/watery. Brickish, minty nose with big cedar & baking chocolate flavors. Holding up better than expected for a fruity vintage. — 8 years ago
