this is an excellent fall wine. almost feels a bit like a pinot- dark fruit, cranberries, and an earthy/animal funk.... mostly i got an interplay between earth and berries- all within a refreshingly light body/fine mouthfeel. — 10 years ago

I heard legends that this man could transcend any vintage expectations and so I purchased this and rolled the dice. Apparently was the hottest it's been in decades during the 2003 vintage. Yes, it's true, this was like a raspberry pie in a glass giving off refined animal aromas. Managed to get all the good stuff out of the cornas wine and backed with the right acidity...WTF. Heroes get remembered. Legends never die. Right up there with allemand with a a bit of extra soul. RIP — 11 years ago

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to taste the three La La's from the 1999 vintage side by side last night. La Turque was, by far, the most concentrated and frankly, massive of the three. Impressive aromas of dust, earth, iron, game, spice, damp clay, blood, meat and bone. Sculpted layers of flavor, depth and sheer power continue in the mouth with brooding black fruit, mouth-coating, yet balanced tannins, a compelling animal quality, savory notes, dollops of spice. This wine is an amazing, bordering on spiritual journey. — 12 years ago

Outstanding top level Chianti, deep garnet in colour, pronounced on the nose and palate, probably fully developed as limited fruit there. There are lots of tertiary aromas though, tons of animal/ farmyard flavour (borderline brettanomyces), and some wet leaves. The palate opens up to a little red currant, smoke and toast. Packs a huge punch (I laughed when I first put my nose in it) yet stays dainty and elegant. A hippo in a tutu doing a startlingly good pirouette, a wild animal and an aristocrat.
